Is the Stingray City tour physically difficult for those not in the best shape?

My wife and I went to Sting Ray city in December 04 and the water was extremely rough. The guides were recommending only strong swimmers get in, even though everyone had life jackets. My wife stayed on the boat while I went in. There were time when the waves came over the top of us in the water. A lady fell off the ladder getting back on the boat. She wasn't hurt, but more shocked and embarassed. I felt bad my wife stayed on the boat, but the Sting Rays were great.

We wished thid portion of the tour was cancelled and refunded. About 5-6 peoiple stayed on and several that went in wished they didn't.

Hopefully in April, waters will be more calm so we can do it again.
