BrnBrok Posted February 16, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 16, 2017 (edited) We are looking at cabin 8181 and 8183 FV category. Has anyone experienced problems like soot, too much sun exposure, room to warm, etc on either of these cabins? Rare mahdnc Posted February 17, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 17, 2017 Last month, we were aboard Infinity in cabin 8166 which is the FV on the corner opposite of 8181. We had no real issues to speak of. Because the balcony is so long and it is partially covered, you often will have your choice of sun or shade--depending on the direction of the ship and position of the sun! My vote goes to 8181 (8183 has a smaller balcony and the cabin is a little smaller). But based on my experience, there shouldn't be any issues with either cabin. varoo Posted February 18, 2017 #3 Share Posted February 18, 2017 (edited) We are looking at cabin 8181 and 8183 FV category. Has anyone experienced problems like soot, too much sun exposure, room to warm, etc on either of these cabins? 8181 has open railings on the side that are very tempting for youngsters who like to climb. If traveling with small children, 8183 would be preferable to us because you can let the children play out there without any worry. Otherwise, 8181 would be preferable to us for the additional side views. But some adults still prefer 8183 because the back of 8181 is a white solid metal wall that blocks the aft view when lying on a lounger, and even blocks the view of short people sitting in a chair, (except for a small window at one end). It also blocks the aft view when sitting inside the cabin looking out, so you need to stand up to look over it, unless you are quite tall. 8183 has clear plexiglass all the way across the balcony, just like most ship balconies do, which provides an unobstructed view looking out from any position. Much of the balcony of 8181 gets breeze, and even strong wind at times, but 8183 doesn't get any breeze, so that can be a consideration depending on whether you are taking a warm or cold weather cruise. You may need to wipe down the balcony furniture occasionally, but it is not really a problem. Room temperature should not be a problem for either cabin as you have controls to adjust the temperature inside the cabins to suit yourself. The only temperature problem for a couple would be the usual one, when one person thinks the room is too hot and the other thinks it is too cold. ;) In rough seas, you can experience more motion back there than you would in a mid-ship cabin. Also, some people do not like to ride looking backwards. Otherwise, I cannot think of any other disadvantages to those cabins. The extra space is really nice.
