Guaranteed Balcony

Our first cruise was a guarantee balcony on the Conquest. Was a great room, deck 8, almost to the front, starboard side, cabins above and below. We didn't have any idea what made a good cabin or a bad cabin so we let them pick and we scored. From reading here, it doesn't always work out that great. Look at the deck plans for the ship you're cruising on and decide if the very worst cabin in the category you want will be acceptable - if yes, do it. If not, don't. If not sure - roll the dice for exciting fun! :)

I'm not a gambler, but I love rolling the dice for a guarantee balcony. I always do it, especially when it is offered at a discount. We usually have a category upgrade within the balcony category. We are not particular about our cabin location since we are very mobile. On two occasions with Celebrity, we were assigned family aft balconies. These have separate living rooms, two televisions and extended aft facing balconies!

Sure we have done it several times when there is a big difference in price. Have always been lucky with what we have gotten, even had an upgrade from OV to Grand Suite (this was the best) but have to take the chance. Next up is on the Dream Balcony gty and got Lido deck-yes, happy!

It's a good way to get a balcony, and save a little money as well. And when we did it we ended up on the lido deck. We have been told, that when you do a guaranteed balcony or guaranteed inside state room they will start putting people first on the higher decks, and then go to lower decks as the upper deck to get filled.
