Carnival MC Redeeming Points, Missing Funpoints Calculator

Hi,

Want to know if anyone else has any recent experience with redeeming points towards a cruise with their Carnival MC. We have had this card for years and could use our calculator to see exactly how many points were needed. That feature is gone and I just called customer service and they couldn't tell me how many points I would need for my cruise. What use is a benefit that doesn't have a defined value that I plan on? So frustraing! I know that the best benefit used to come after $1500, is this still true? Not sure shy they would do away with this feature. I am planning on using a TA this time, as she is a friend of mine and they assured that I could redeem my points towards the cruise, no matter where it was booked, but concerned the redemption rate may not be the same. Anyone that can offer some insight, it is much appreciated! Thanks!

I'm posting this here for anybody else interested in calculating the Funpoints needed to pay for their cruise with the Carnival Mastercard, since the Funpoints calculator was removed form the website. The redemption rate is the same. The number of Funpoints needed (for cruise costs over $1500), can be calculated by dividing the cruise cost by .015. My most recent cruise was $2519.76, paid in full, and the Funpoints redemption was 167,985. Under $1500, I believe the rate is only .01, so it is better to upgrade your room or add prepaid grauities, whatever will get you over that magical threshold! Hope this helps!

You're correct. The redemption rate $.01 per point against purchaes under $1500. Example: 5000 points = $50.00 redemption value when credited towards previous CCL purchases under $1500.00, or $75.00 redemption value against CCL purchases of $1500 or more. Also, keep in mind those CCL qualified purchaes remain on your account for 180 days.

Here's a scenario from our own recent activity.

We had about 73K points. Booked a 14-day Journeys cruise last December. Deposit was $1200.00 for 3 travelers. My intention was to apply 70K points as a statement credit for $700, leaving me $500 left on the bill to pay. But then I realized we still had several purchases from a previous cruise in July. Many of them were smaller amounts . . . well under the $1500 threshold. But there was also the final bill from the S&S account that will still within the 180 day eligibility. That bill was over $3400. So I applied the 70K points against that charge and received a statement credit of $1050 instead of $700. Net result: I only owed $150 for the $1200 deposit that was charged on my January statement.

So, yes is it definitely to your advantage to structure your purchases so that they are $1500 or more. For us, that means to avoid pre-purchasing things like excursions, gratuities, drink packages, or anything else that can be purchased on board and charged to the S&S account. We also charge casino activity to the S&S card. We keep cash usage to a minimum, reserving that to pay off the MasterCard when the bill comes to avoid interest.

Another thing to remember about FunPoints redemption: You can only redeem a minimum of 5000 points. In my example above, I mentioned we had 73K points, but I could only apply 70K because that left me with 3K points . . . which is below the minimum for redemption.

Hope this helps.

I just looked and the calculator is still on the Barclaycard app.

Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

I never thought to look for an app! That would have saved me much frustration on calling in to customer service. Thanks for the tip! Wonder why they removed it from the browser version...

That was smart thinking to apply it to an oler, larger transaction! I received double pioints for charging the cruise to the card, I don't know if I will lose them because of the redemption. If not, then it is at least as good as the double points for purchases onboard. I like giving my money to the casino and have always brought cash, thinking that there would be transaction fees otherwise. Good to know that there is not so I can at least earn double points on that as well :D
