Genoa help please

We are a family of 11- ages 9-78. The only stop I can't decide on is Genoa. We will be there on a Sunday. Our choices are:

1. Do Genoa on our own

2. Private excision to Cinque Terre

3. Private excision to Portofino and San Fruttuoso.

We have not been to any of these cities. I am leaning towards Cinque Terre, but I am concerned about the travel time. We do not go to Livorno, so we cannot see it from there.

Any thoughts or advice?

Wow, if it weren't for the numbers, I'd've thought I wrote that post! There's 8 of us, 11-75. I'm also having trouble with Genoa. I think we're going to do the Aquarium there, with maybe a behind the scenes tour. I think Cique Terre looks too far away to do anything but a drive by. How far of a drive is Portofino?

We're on the July 21 MSC Splendida out of Marseilles, FYI.

We are on the MSC Meraviglia the week before! Hope we like MSC- we have never sailed with them before.

Portofino looks about 45 minutes away. I believe Cinque Terre is about 1 hr 45 minutes.

I have been researching this city too. This article from The NY Times was an interesting read. We are definitely going up in the sideways elevator!
