Spring Break on Splendor with Family of 12!

Recommended Posts

You and your daughter definitely do look like sisters. :) Splendor was my first ever cruise and the ship where my husband I started dating (almost 5 years ago...eek!), I definitely have some fond memories of her!

Thanks!!

That's awesome you started dating on Splendor! Definitely a great memory!

So far so good. Continuing....

About a month after booking, hubby received a Premier Casino invitewhich happened to have our sailing listed so after speaking with out TA(mother-in-law) we were able to switch to that rate which saved us a littleover $240 for our cabin and gave him $400 cash from the casino which was AWESOME! We've never been able to takeadvantage of the Premier Casino invites so hubby was too excited. More on thatlater.

Day 1 – Sail Away Day!

We went to our cabins which were ready and dropped off thefew bags we carried on and went up to Lido for lunch. Splendor doesn’t have theGuys burger or Blue Iguana but I didn’t care for the Guysburger when I had iton Glory anyway so no biggie for me. So,the kids got hamburgers or hotdogs and fries. I always get a veggie burger andloaded fries lol I’m such a kid! The veggie burger was pretty good too! I don’trecall them offering that on any of my previous cruises so maybe it’s a newitem. Either way, it was good. I also ordered the welcome aboard drink, yummy!

This was probably thelongest muster drill EVER! And HOT! They did have these ipad devices andchecked in each cabin and anyone who was not present was supposed to meet someplace else for their own muster drill lol They gave the kids their wristbandsand then after the drill, we were off to Lido for the sail away party.

Hi, thank you for the review. I am sailing on Splendor next month and am so excited. I have a few questions for you if you don't mind answering.

1. What is the Premier Casino invite? How does one get this and what does it involve?

2. Did you get the hamburgers at the burger place? If so what time do the restaurants open during embarkation. I really don't want to eat at the buffet for lunch after we board so am hoping other restaurants are open.

3.You mention wristbands for kids. What is that for?

Thanks in advance. I look forward to reading the rest of your review.

Hi, thank you for the review. I am sailing on Splendor next month and am so excited. I have a few questions for you if you don't mind answering.

1. What is the Premier Casino invite? How does one get this and what does it involve? From what I've read on other threads here, you rack up points when playing in the casino and my husband spends a lot of time and money in the casino so he's gotten numerous invites. They come in the mail every now and then.

2. Did you get the hamburgers at the burger place? If so what time do the restaurants open during embarkation. I really don't want to eat at the buffet for lunch after we board so am hoping other restaurants are open. As far as I know, none of the restaurants are open when we first board. Only the Pizza Pirate and the buffet with the hamburgers, hot dogs and fries.

3.You mention wristbands for kids. What is that for? They give green wristbands at the muster drill which lists their muster station on it in case an emergency happens while they are in camp so the counselors know where to take them.

Thanks in advance. I look forward to reading the rest of your review.

Thanks for reading!! I put my answers in red above for you ;)

The vegetable roll looks like a Vietnamese spring roll. Did it have mint and cilantro in it? They are an acquired taste, but I love them.

I'm back! So sorry for the delay, the past few days have been busy! Anyway, here we go!

Day 6 – Cozumel

We love Cozumel! We’ve been here several times and havealways enjoyed this port. I have to say that one of my favorite excursions washere a few years back and that was the helmet drive! Amazing! I love anythingthat has to do with water and this one #2 for me with Stingray Island being #1.Anyway, I really wanted to go to Mr Sanchos this time, but I we had such ablast at Paradise Beach with the kids the time we went, we decided to do itagain, but the taxi driver talked us into going to Club Cozumel Caribe whichended up being pretty nice as well.

The only thing missing was the inflatables, but the water was SO rough that day that I wouldn’t have allowed the kids to goout that far anyway. They have a nice restaurant and pool area as well. Theyalso have a complimentary tequila tasting with a short tour which goes over thetequila making process which we found pretty interesting! He samples they gavewere excellent too and STRONG! Lol One other thing, they have a VERY small beach area that actually has water. The rest of the ocean is blocked off by a looooong wall so although there's beach sand, no access to the water. The small area that did have water access was SO rough and full of large rocks so the kids and I only stayed in for about 20 minutes and then we headed to the pool, which was not salt water ;)

The pool was refreshingly cool and had a coupled rowdy kids but other than that, it was nice an relaxing.

We ordered some loaded nachos, chicken wings and fries all of which was pretty good size portions and tasty. After swimming, having some good food and the tequila tasting, we headed back to the port, bought a few items and boarded the ship. We were all pretty exhausted from the sun and fun so we had a low key evening. I may have put the info on Quest on the wrong day in this review also lol I think it was supposed to be this day, but I can't remember and being that I used the HUB, I didn't keep any of the Funtimes so sorry if things are a bit out of order lol We did make it to the casino and comedy club tho lol And then returned to the cabin for the night to this little friend

And these awesome totes from the casino

Seriously, the casino has me so spoiled that I never want to sail without one of those invites again :p

Day 7- Sea Day

Our last day! :( The last day is always the worst for me. Packing, getting things in order and trying to squeeze in as much fun as possible in 1 day is hectic lol But we always make the best of it. The kids spent most of the day at camp as they had a farewell party and lots of arts and craft things going on which they all enjoyed. Our teen made a bunch of friends so he was rarely seen during camp times but we finally manage to get everyone to agree to meet for pics and dinner at 8pm. So until then. my daughter and I relaxed on serenity deck and walked around the ship looking at the sea and just relaxing as much as possible since we all had to go back to work on Monday. I did also manage to get in a short nap in the cabin after packing ours and the kids suitcases to leave outside the cabin that night. Spent come time in the casino before dinner and also played another round of mini golf with my youngest then met in the photography area on Promenade and got a really nice family photo taken (sorry my dad has it at his house so I didn't get to snap a pic of it) My daughter and I took a nice pic together also. I always find the poses to feel so weird but the pics come out pretty nice. Although this pic makes us look like bobble heads ;p

After pics, we went to the MDR and were given a nice long table so we could all sit together. Service was pretty slow that night but I figured the last night was probably a popular night to go so we just had great conversation and laughs and told the wait staff to take their time and not stress (the head waitress was stressing about her teams tardiness in taking our orders) The wait staff also gave us a little farewell performance which was fun.

After dinner, we sent the kids back to camp for the last time for another party they hosted and we went to the comedy club which had a new comedian and he as hilarious! After the show,we kind of split up since my dad hadn't done any packing yet, but little did we know he had something up his sleeve. Now, we did know hewas going to propose on the cruise, but he hadn't really mentioned it so we figured he got cold feet lol But apparently not! He took her up to deck 10 and got on one knee and the rest is history! Of course we had no idea until we got off the ship the next morning! He's such a weirdo sometimes lol Anyway, I'm very happy for them both! So while he was proposing, we were at the night club dancing the night away! We had such a good time! DJ was awesome and it was packed! Even some crew members joined us for one last night of fun. I didnt snap many pics the last day because I got tired of carrying my phone around lol After dancing, we picked up the kids and got pizza and turned in for the night because we had to be up early so they could kick us off this beautiful ship lol

The kids cabin had this with a nice card from the steward

And we had this little guy wearing my sunglasses lol Cute!

Also, the best casino gift of all was awaiting us! A free cruise!!!!!! I was SO freaking excited I almost threw up! lol Hubby spending so much time in the casino definitely paid off. And he didn't even spend that much money either. He actually broke even so I definitely can't complain lol I know the free room offers book quickly so I called as soon as we got home lol We booked a 7 day on Glory leaving on July 8th going to HMC, St Thomas, San Juan and Grand Turk!! Only had to pay $298 in port fees and taxes which was AWESOME! And the best part!? NO KIDS are going with us! :D Mommy is a happy camper lol 92 days and counting!

Debarkation was smooth as usual so nothing really to say about that. Oh wait! My MIL did have a hard time finding one of her suitcases as it was on the wrong luggage belt but eventually found it after 30 minutes of looking! lol She was a little annoyed but it worked out.

Overall, we had a really great cruise! I can't say I've ever had BAD cruise, but this one was definitely a lot of fun! We have decided to start taking a group family cruise each year, adding a few more family members as well so I'm excited about that. Well, that's all folks! I hope you enjoyed my review! If you have questions at all, ask away! Happy cruising everyone!!!

We have been on Splendor a few times when it sailed out of NYC. The layout is a bit confusing, but you get used to it. Took us a few minutes the first time trying to find the MDR, but we did. Last time we were on it we had a balcony on deck 10. It was right behind the large outdoor screen and there was no noise at all from it. One floor down to Lido and it was fine.

Thanks for sharing your cruise with us! Loved reading about it and seeing the pictures.

Congratulations on the free cruise, that's so wonderful for you!

I was wondering what the name of the place was that you went to in Belize?
