ZellaLamb Posted April 13, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 13, 2017 Has anyone flown on LATAM airlines with a wheelchair? We are leaving in November on a cruise that will go from Ft. Lauderdale down through the Panama Canal and then down to Valpariso, Chile, with stops along the way. It seems that the best prices for airfare to return home are on LATAM. I'm looking for anyone who has used them.
Splinter Posted April 16, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2017 Sorry, we flew United when we went to Santiago. Have you found a resource for wheelchair accessible transportation from Santiago to Valpariso yet? It is about 90 miles. We were able to find a wheelchair lift van transport, but this was in 2001 so can't provide you the information any more.
NorthernLite Posted May 6, 2017 #3 Share Posted May 6, 2017 We did the reverse of your cruise in 2007. We flew on American and Celebrity provided a ramp equipped van for the same amount as regular bus transfers from Santiago to Valparaiso. Do be aware of any visa and how they want you to pay for it when you hit Chile. And do not head to the airport with anything resembling seeds or nuts and that includes trail mix and dry roasted nuts in snack packages. Chile enforces that no nuts on your customs declaration very strictly and their customs dogs sniff them out too. A table mate got hit with an $800 fine and was put on the international list of known smugglers forever after over a 4 ounce bag of Planters roasted almonds. Very friendly and helpful people but seriously strict laws to protect their agricultural sector.
