Xcaret or Xel-ha?

Going to Cozumel in Mid-December on the Enchantment of the Seas. If we decide to brave the ferry over to the mainland (it was not a very pleasant experience the last time we were there), we would like to go to either Xcaret or Xel-ha. We are really interested in snorkeling and tubing in the underground rivers. We also may try to book a dolphin swim.

Does anyone have any advice. suggestions, etc.? It looks like the ship is not offering an excursion to Xcaret so we would have to get there on our own.

Thanks in advance.

Mid-December is when Xcaret is slated to reopen. Just a tip for you on the tender/ferry across...sit downstairs, in the middle section all the way to the back. And watch the tv screen...seems to help. As far as doing the tour on your own, just make sure you leave enough time to make it back to the ship...the ferries are running now every other hour. Not sure if they will increase their schedule as the winter season expands. Taxi ride is about $10 and there are lots there to take you back to Playa del Carmen.
