cat981 Posted April 27, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2017 We (group of 7 -2 young adults, 3 seniors and 2 kids 14,8,6) will be in Vancouver this weekend (Saturday afternoon and Sunday) before boarding our ship Sunday afternoon. Weather shows rain. We had plan to do Granville Island Saturday afternoon and Stanley Park Sunday morning. Any suggestions on things to do in case it does rain? Also is the weather up there more of steady rain or little showers? We are from lower Alabama and storms are pretty hard here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! The rain is normally more of a steady drizzle, nothing like what you are used to in Alabama. You may want to look into the hop on hop off bus, we live in Seattle and did that in Vancouver years ago and found it interesting and you get the chance to get off and explore and then catch one that comes along later. The only problem is it might be spending with a group your size. http://www.vancouvertrolley.com/tours/hop-on-hop-off Here is the link and it has a map that shows where all of the stops are at. Rare martincath Posted April 27, 2017 #3 Share Posted April 27, 2017 Yup, it's rare we get serious downpours with rain bouncing back off the ground to soak you. HOHOs themselves are (mostly - a few open top vehicles around) covered, so they would minimise being rained on if you were getting off at indoor attractions. As mentioned, finding 7 seats on same vehicle - especially on a rainy day - could be a challenge! Given the variety of ages, unless you're that almost-unheard-of family where three generations all enjoy the same things, splitting up would definitely help both practicality of transport (minivan taxis hold a max of 5 or 6, and those are much rarer than the regular 4pax max Prius cars, so walking or public transit are the only realistic ways you can all stay together while moving around) as well as enjoyment factor - e.g. maybe some would love the Maritime Museum, others the Space Centre (these two, plus Museum of Vancouver, are all in basically the same place - easiest to reach by False Creek Ferry or HOHO from downtown). Granville island works well in the rain - public market is one huge building, no need to go outside once you're in. Many other shops are also in smaller 'mall' enivronments, so you can hustle between buildings then browse for a while under cover (Kids market should be a hit with the younger ones, but maybe not the the teen). Another potentially good for a wide age range spot would be Science World, I see tons of family groups visit that not just kids (and it's popular enough with adults that they actually have special grown-up evenings with no dang kids allowed!) xlxo Posted April 28, 2017 #4 Share Posted April 28, 2017 I download the weather network app onto my phone. Then check the Doppler radar hourly for breaks in the train. Take advantage of these breaks. The Saturday/Sunday forecast has been flipping back and forth on which day will have rain. This means "unsettled" at this time. xlxo Posted April 28, 2017 #5 Share Posted April 28, 2017 Latest forecast says dry weather Saturday morning. Wetness in the afternoon and evening. Best strategy at this time is to check when things open and then hit them when it's dry. Plan your restaurant meals when it gets wet. Dry weather returns Sunday afternoon. https://www.theweathernetwork.com/ca/weather/british-columbia/vancouver ONTELH-iV3A
