Amalfi Coast by Boat from Naples?

Hi,

 

Our first time going to Europe so we are really excited but it seems overwhelming trying to decide what to do.

 

Has anyone ever seen the Amalfi Coast by boat leaving from the port of Naples? Do you recommend doing excursion? If so, who did you use? Are you able to fit in any other stops on a typical 9-hour tour...e.g. Capri, Sorrento, Positano, others?

 

My wife tends to get motion sick in a car so I am worried the drive to Amalfi wouldn't be the best option for her. But the boat option may be good.

Are you looking to hire a private boat for a day, or are you interested in pubic ferry routes?

I would be open to either option. Obviously private will be more expensive but if a public ferry isn't a good option to see lots of sights, then it may be worth the extra cost of a private boat.

One of the difficulties is finding an operator who departs from Naples rather than from Capri or Sorrento, where it must be less expensive for them.

By public ferry, depending on what time you arrive in Naples, you could start with a ferry from Naples to Sorrento, followed by ferries from there to the Amalfii Coast. Or, if you arrive early (say, 7 AM) it makes more sense to take the train to Salerno and get the ferry there to Amalfi and/or Positano.
