Back-to-back

Cruise Monkey

Recommended Posts

I am going on a back-to-back Carnival Paradise cruise this coming year and had a question as to what they do with the liquor purchases. From previous cruises I know that they deliver the liquor purchases to your stateroom the last night of the cruise, but when going on a back-to-back cruise do they deliver the liquor to your stateroom the last night of the first cruise, or the last night of the second cruise? And BTW, we are staying in the same room for both cruises if that makes a difference.

Thanks.

Oh, very clever of you! I'll bet you'll get your booze at the end of your first cruise; how could they keep track of the fairly infrequent back-to-back folks in all the delivery chaos? I'll be curious to know if anyone has experience with this.

Yup. We did a back to back last year and we received ours the same as everyone else on the last night. So we were well stocked for the second week.

We are doing another back to back in March 2006 and expect the same.

Enjoy the perk!!!

Onebusyman .... Thanks so much for your reply!!!

We never take any with us (too much trouble -- on vacation so don't want to lug things around ) BUT we will order a few the first week and give it a try! :p Thanks for this tip!!!!

Please, also tell us anything else we need to know about B2Bs on Carnival (we've only done B2Bs on Princess).

Thanks again ... and looking forward to any other help you can give us on Carnival B2B!!!

Do you have to repack and lug your luggage around or do they let you keep you stuff in your room?

Do you have to exit the ship, then re board?

Don't know, never been on a B2B. But from what I have read on CC before, if you have the same room, you can stay in it and essentially do nothing. If you switch rooms, I've heard that the cabin steward guy/gal will move you. Only thing you have to do in either case is to get a new room key - so I have heard. I'll let you guys know after I get back.

As for the booze, I guess I'll be making a LOT of "friends" :D I'll buy a bunch of stuff (liquor, beer, etc.) and see what happens. If we drink most of it, I won't have to drag it back with me on the plane....

We are sailing on a B2B on the Glory this Saturday! :) We will be driving to the port and leaving in a few minutes! :)

My understanding is that we notify the purser's desk when we board the ship and that we will receive a letter from them with instructions to report to their desk the morning we dock and they will escort us off the ship and back on with new sign and sail cards. We are staying in the same cabin.

We are out of here! :)

They do not sell beer in the stores on the ship. The only beer which can be purchased is the (almost) "six-pack" priced singles - or buckets of 4...

I was talking about buying the beer on an island.

I don't believe you will have much luck getting it back on the ship - at least in any meaningful quantities. We have, in the past, been able to get a bottle or two of liquor by the security - but their attention to detail does tend to vary!

Good luck - and have a great time.... I would LOVE to to a B-2-B sometime. Ahhhh, to be able to bypass those "last day blues" of the impending debarkation, if only for a while!

Hi,

I almost always do B2B :) The norm is at the end of the first week you will get any drinks you have purchased delivered to your cabin.

As mentioned earlier, during the first week you need to contact the pursers office and inform them you are a B2B passenger and they will advise you on what time you have to be at the pursers office on the morning on debarkation of the first cruise. If you have the same cabin both weeks then your in for a very relaxing time. The normal instructions are to report to the pursers desk at a set time. (Which is their estimate of the time when the last call is made for passengers to disembark.) If your like me you lolled around in bed recovering from a hangover and after hearing most of the floors called you rolled onto the floor and crawled into the shower, quickly freshened up and then making sure to grab your customs form, passport/id and second weeks cruise tickets wander to the pursers office. (Most times as you exit the cabin they will have placed a sign on the door saying B2B dont disturb.) So while everyone else was getting up at 6am and feeling bad you are just awake at a nice and reasonable 10am and ready to begin the day.

Once all the passengers are clear of the ship a purser will escort you and anyone else on a B2B off the ship and thru to customs/immigration and then to the check in desk. They will check you in and hand you your new key and then the purser will take you back onto the ship. (Normally before anyone else gets to board or with the wedding groups.) You can then head to your cabin drop off your documents and head to the Lido to watch everyone arrive. (I did get shouted at on one cruise as I re-entered my cabin by a steward who thought I was disturbing the B2B passenger, he thought I was another steward and fell over himself apologizing :) )

If you have a cabin change then you need to do the same thing of checking in with the purser but you must pack your bags the last night and attach labels showing the new cabin number and then leave the bags IN the cabin. You can still stay in the cabin and not bother getting up early but I normally feel guilty and clearout of the cabin by about 8:30am so that the steward can clean the room for the next guest. (Again taking my documents with me I will head to the Lido deck and relax until the last call, Just leave the bags in the cabin.) You will then do all the same things of getting off the ship and back on, but once back on I suggest heading back to the pursers office and asking them to have your bags moved between cabins. I have been told they will do this for you automatically but at best it can take a couple of hours and its alot easier to get it done immediatly and then you can start relaxing again.

A couple of items that are nice about B2B is that the crew tend to be even more frendly when they realize you will be around for another week and you will normally get a fruit basket, champange etc in the cabin on the second week. Sometimes also you will be invited on the second week to the Captains Private party which is normally held in a private lounge and you have the chance to meet all the crew,. (Normally only about 10-15 people ae invited.)

One other item to note, treat the end of the first week as you normally would the end of a cruise and make sure to give your tips for the week.

Your only concern with B2B is that once you've done one you will be hooked and it gets expensive :D There is nothing more fun on the last night of the first weeks cruise to not have the blues about getting off and know your only halfway there.

Regards

Peter

Thanks for the detailed information. One question though, I read somewhere on this board (about a month or so ago) that you didn't have to leave the ship, just to go to the pursers desk to get a new room key. From what you say, I assume that they acutally escort you off of the ship and then back on before anyone else. Also, do you have to claim all of the liquor that you buy, even if you plan to drink it on the "second leg"?

Thanks.
