Bribrittmom Posted November 25, 2005 #1 Share Posted November 25, 2005 I just found out today that our 12/18/05 sailing on the Mariner is now going to Cococay instead of Cozumel which I had been repeatedly assured we were still going to. Has anyone been to Cococay in Dec? I'm worried it will be too cold to swim and there is little else to do there. How is the water temp in Dec? Is Cococay in the southern or nothern Bahamas? I'm also afraid with two tendering ports with a ship as large as the Mariner we may not make any ports and I know my two teens would be bored and misereable and then make me and my DH miserable. Please reassure me that Cococay will be fun in Dec. Thanks.
NEARING 100 CRUISES Posted November 25, 2005 #2 Share Posted November 25, 2005 Your kids will enjoy Coco Cay more than they would Mexico. Its one big beach party. The water is warm and theres a lot of water and beach activities. Also, the kitchen cooks a very nice bbq on the beach. We will be there on the Radiance the first week in December. I think you and the kids will enjoy the day. Have fun.
Bribrittmom Posted November 25, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted November 25, 2005 My kids have been to Cozumel several times and love it. I have been to Cococay once and it was a lot of fun,I'm just worried it will be too cold to swim in Dec. as it is much farther north than Cozumel. 1corona4u Posted November 25, 2005 #6 Share Posted November 25, 2005 Right now, the waters in that area are between 75-80°. In Cozumel right now, the waters close to shore are between 65-70°. Should be fine in Cococay.

We were there in Jan. once and the water was around 78degrees. http://www.oceanweather.com/data/index.html Click on the region, then at the top, there are graphic links for sea temps, waves, and other useful info. Here is the current temp graphic. I find them to be fairly accurate. Cococay is about parallel to Miami-east. Color chart at the bottom shows the temp. Not sure why it's cooler in cozumel. Maybe because the waters got stirred up a bit with Gamma, and it was cloudy for days. I do know 2 days ago, it was 54° In Nassau.....so the water there will be cooler for a week or two. It'll warm back up though.
Inshape Posted November 25, 2005 #9 Share Posted November 25, 2005 LAst year when we visited Cozumel in Jan the water was too cold for me to go in. The kids went in briefly but for me, no way! Go and enjoy whatever and wherever u go. Beats being home!
CarolinaGirl Posted November 25, 2005 #10 Share Posted November 25, 2005 In mid-December of 2004 the water at Coco Cay was way too cold for me to swim!! But there were a few hardy people who did get in it - just not for long.
