The Yucatan Peninsula is the place for Mayan Ruins.

Around Colima (outside Manzanillo) are some ruins that are not on the scale of most of the Mayan sites. There are pyramids and tombs made from river rock.

We were in Zihautenejo last year and I inquired at the small museum there about ruins in the area . I was informed by the museum director that there are numerous sites in that area, but they are still under excavation, off limits, and strictly controlled by the Mexican government.

Maybe something more is available now

AAA has a Mexico travel book and is a good sourc e for free info.

Good Luck
