Ft. Lauderdale hotel area nearest everglades

I am trying to bid on Priceline - and not doing well so far!! I don't know the area well and am directionally challenged. LOL. We are looking for a two night pre-cruise stay for Jan 30 and 31. We will be renting a car and driving to the everglades. We don't need to be on a beach or near restaurants since we will have a car. I would like 3 or 4* if possible. In which area of Ft. Lauderdale would it be best for me to try bidding?

As long as you have a car anywhere in the I-595 corridor would be easy to get around from... "Downtown" is the SE 17th Street area nearest the airport and port (even closer to the airport than "airport" in most cases), "FLL-West/Plantation" would also be a good area with many hotels midway between the airport/Port Everglades area and the Everglades.
