Transportation from Ft. Lauderdale to Miami

We have a one night pre-cruise reservation booked at Amerisuites Ft. Lauderdale for Saturday, December 10. Our cruise leaves from the Port of Miami on Sunday, the 11th. What is the "best" choice for transportation for 3 people and too much luggage? In addition, my mom uses a fold-up travel wheelchair. Also how much time should we allow to get to the port?

From AmeriSuites to the Port of Miami it's about a 45 minute drive under normal conditions, much longer if there's an accident on I-95.
