Snorkeling at Rum Point Beach

It would be a bit far of a swim to get all the way out tot he barrier reef from Rum Point. However there are lots of scattered small coral heads much closer to Rum Point so no need to swim out too far. Ask the dive shop staff for tips and they will happily point out where to go. (Hint: Mostly to the right side of the dock as you are looking out to sea.)

We didn't snorkel out to the barrier reef at Rum Point, as my wife isn't the strongest swimmer around, but I was told it was about 150 yards off shore to the barrier reef. We snorkeled along with the current, just about 30 yards off the shore and had a fantastic time. We parked at Rum Point, then walked back to the east about a 1/2 mile down from rum point and swam out to where the first shallows started, then just drifted along with the current towards Rum Point. It took about an hour and a half and was more than we needed to get our fix.

I don't know if we can post links to websites, so I won't try in this post. I will post a second reply separately. But, Google "Rum Point Snorkel Testudo" and you will find a great blog with three snorkel suggestions off of Rum Point -- Barrier reef, coral gardens and drift route. The blog has a good number of other snorkel suggestions for GC, all of which look great.
