Gina Posted August 14, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 14, 2017 I'm on the February 20, 2017 Historic Passage East Voyage (Panama Canal). I've never cruised to this part of the world and my question is directed to those who have. A brief internet search shows the following currencies that are accepted in each port: Cabo San Lucas, Mexico ~ US Dollar Huatulco, Mexico ~ Pesos Puerto Chiapas, Mexico ~ Pesos Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala ~ US Dollar San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua ~ US Dollar Puntarenas, Costa Rica ~ US Dollar Cartagena, Colombia ~ Colombia Pesos My travel agent tells me that US Dollars will be accepted in Mexico, up to a total of $100. I plan to need cash only for tips, drinks, lunch, or incidentals. I'm prepared to purchase pesos prior to my trip, but want to make sure I need to. Thanks for any replies! Food galore Posted August 15, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 15, 2017 We only used USA dollars when we cruised the Panama on Princess last year and had no problems.
Wickets Posted August 15, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 15, 2017 We are on this cruise also. We did the 18 day partial canal ABC island cruise last December are we're supposed to have had brief Colon visit. We did not dock, and port visit is not listed this year either. I do not use debt card, only credit card. There are too many skimmers stealing info in Mexico. Tour guides are very happy to take US $. We should have bought peso right after election, value tanked but has been bouncing back. Sent from my iPad using Forums
