Gee, Brian, I ALSO booked Spiros...Got a confirmation from him back on 10/26...

My guess is one or the other of us may have him...but the other--and maybe both of us--will have some "associate" of Spiros...

We used him in October, 2004 and liked him very much. He picked us up at the ship at 8 AM disembarkation, took us on a tour of Athens and dropped us at our hotel at 1 PM.

We hired Spiros this November, prior to our cruise aboard the Insignia. As luck would have it, he turned out to be double-booked for that day (probably due to other Oceania cruisers reading these boards) so he handed us off to one of his "associates," with whom we were well pleased. Spiros even called during our tour of Athens to make sure his associate was taking good care of us.

 

Spiros' photo is on his website making it easy to recognize him when he picks you up, but beware if somebody approaches you at pierside or in a hotel lobby telling you that the driver you hired wasn't available and that they're your "replacement" driver. Some may even tell you they're "George" or "Spiros," hoping that you won't know what they really look like. :eek: Aggressive cabbies lurk around looking for luggage-laden travelers who look like they might be waiting for a ride to the airport, cruise terminal, or a hotel. Ask the driver questions like, "Who sent you?" "Where are you assigned to take me?" and "What was the pre-arranged fare?" to check their bona fides.

Thanks DrWong for the helpful suggestions......now it looks as though I have to beware local Taxi drivers AND bruinSteve in Athens......not sure who is more dangerous.

After watching the UCLA football team's trouncing by USC on Saturday (and the UCLA women's soccer team loss to Portland on Sunday), any threat from the Bruins is greatly overestimated! (ha ha!) ;)
