geomancer Posted August 30, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 30, 2017 Usually it's best to be charged in local currency than to accept a businesses horrible exchange rate (in this case RCI). The credit card company will use the market exchange rate. However, some charge a fee (usually 1-3%). That fee is generally better than the poor exchange rate RCI would give. If you have a card with no foreign transaction fees, that's ideal and always the best choice.
Clarea Posted August 30, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2017 Also, double check with Guest Services that your selection is as you desired. They have a tendency to "forget" what you checked and do the conversion themselves.
CarolynFH Posted January 29, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 29, 2018 I have a question to piggyback on this thread. Aren't all charges on board in USD? What purchases on board would need to be exchanged by RCI or our bank? I was just completing the online checkin and that question re currency conversion was a surprise - so I'm so glad I was able to come to CC and search for answers! If you secure you onboard account with a USD denominated credit card, those questions about conversion do not apply to you.
