FLL to Port of Miami

I'm arriving on Friday to FLL, plan to rent a car and return before cruise on Sunday to MIA airport. I understand Avis has a free (is it free?) shuttle to the port if I return the car at MIA airport? Or, I can take a taxi for approx. $20. How much is the return taxi from Port of MIA to FLL? Is it better to take the cruise transfers then? Thanks.

It's NEVER better to take cruise line transfers... Taxi fares between MIA and the Port of Miami are fixed at $24 per taxi (the taxi fare has just recently gone up from $21). Make sure you let the cabbie know before getting in that you're paying the flat rate, and not using the meter.

Several of the major rental car companies will shuttle you from their MIA airport locations to the port free of charge when you return your car. You do need to let them know in advance though that it's a port return.
