ParrotheadKev Posted September 16, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2017 (edited) I know that this as been asked before. I did a search for Price Drop and went through 5 pages and could not find an answer. So, I'm going to the experts. If the cruise is paid and full and the price dropped by $30 a person. Do you think I can get the difference in OBC? Or am I just out of luck? Edited September 16, 2017 by ParrotheadKev misspelling

26.2runner Posted September 16, 2017 #4 Share Posted September 16, 2017 Thats a bummer you cannot at least get OBC! We booked an OV on Carnival, price is lower now, and I was wondering the same thing. My hubby wants a balcony anyway, and it is almost the same exact price as we paid for OV. Does anyone know if we will we be able to upgrade to the balcony? I believe we will owe about $25. Thank You and happy sailing!!
firemanbobswife Posted September 16, 2017 #5 Share Posted September 16, 2017 You're welcome. Enjoy the savings! Go ahead and call and have them give you the OBC. Just make sure it's not on a guarantee rate and that you won't be losing any OBC you already have due to a previous promotion. You need to factor that in and make sure the total is less. Hope that makes sense.

That's the benefit to booking ES - price drops after final payment. However, it's not for everyone because there are penalties for changes ($50 pp typically) and the deposit is nonrefundable - it's held for a future cruise credit to be used within 2 years. So it's a trade off. You just need to decide what's more important to you.
LindaKE Posted September 16, 2017 #7 Share Posted September 16, 2017 I may be misunderstanding what has been said here. We booked Early Saver. The price dropped $110 pp and Carnival gave it to me via a credit on the amount still owed. I read on their FAQ that, had I paid in full, they would have given me an OBC. Am I misinterpreting something here?

Ex I have 2 bookings on my CC, 1 of which is Paid in Full, second has a balance yet. After 1 price drop that booking got OBC, the second price drop on same booking Carnival rep said she couldn't give OBC that the 60.00 would be credited back to my 💳. The booking with the balance due had been adjusted each time though.

Not sure either but the 60.00 showed up on statement. She said she tried to apply it as OBC and wouldn't let her. We will see what happens with the next 40.00 price drop. beerman2 Posted September 17, 2017 #14 Share Posted September 17, 2017 Firemanbobswife, Update on latest price drop of 40.00 . Balance due booking was adjusted to NEW balance due. Booking that was Paid in full was given OBC this time , the complete opposite of last time. Very strange indeed and phone rep didn't understand what happened last time

I even asked the one time if they could just credit back my CC instead of OBC and they said no it wouldn’t allow them to. Yours was a very unique situation I would say. winddawn Posted September 17, 2017 #16 Share Posted September 17, 2017 I agree with firemanbobswife. Normally it doesn't matter whether the booking is paid in full. What matters is whether the due date for final payment has passed. Before final payment due date, and the difference is refunded to the original form of payment, or adjusted from the balance due if one exists. After final payment due date, and the difference is given in onboard credit. That being said, sometimes you get an inexperienced, uninformed agent on the phone which can affect the expected outcome. kikimom Posted September 17, 2017 #17 Share Posted September 17, 2017 Two questions: Is there a website to check fares (something easier than going through the steps to book the same cruise/cabin category on the Carnival site) and do I need to call Carnival to get the OBC (just saw that our early saver, paid in full cruise has dropped $30pp)? TIA!

TIA! Yes. If you search on the Carnival site for "fareviewer" www. carnival.com/bookingengine/FareViewer/ Keep in mind that when looking at the prices you are looking at the CRUISE FARE before port/taxes. Also if you originally received a promotional OBC (ie $50 summer sale) that amount should be added to the $ of your cruise amount that you would match. Also, fair viewer will not show you any "VIFP special offers" you may have. Such as a Casino rate. If you have a lower rate there you can still match it as long as you qualify. This is why if I originally have a VIFP offer, I first book as ES, then price match to the VIFP offer, but still can price match later after final payment. If you find something that is a lower valid CARNIVAL ADVERTISED RATE (not an off site promotion) take screen shots and can submit it. www carnival.com/core/requestforms/PriceProtection It needs to have either a lower cruise rate for the same CABIN CATEGORY or higher (i.e. 7c, 6b etc). You can request the $ difference or an upgrade to the higher cabin category if you like. ---- So if you booked an OV 6b and there is a sale with automatic upgrade to a OV 6E for the same $ or lower, you could move up to the 6E on a higher deck if you want. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk --- Yes, do it all the time..... but like firemanbobswife stated you will be bound to the ES rules. You simply need to understand what the ES rules are. If you have concerns about cancellations get an outside cruise insurance. Just be sure to also understand what those parameters are as well

I just did that and the rate was higher than what I get when I do a fake booking. (my adjusted fare after the credit for lower rate) I was looking at the price before port/taxes. Why do I get a lower fare doing the fake booking?

Ie 4b, 4c, 4d And make sure you are seeing the total for BOTH people not p/p The ONLY open staterooms I currently see avail. Is a Suite for $3000+ before port/txs Edited September 17, 2017 by wiskt
