Smokin Magic

I keep reading about how bad the cigarette smoke is on and around the Dream. Especially in the casino.

Since Magic is the same class ship, is the smoke also bad on her? I enjoy playing in the casino, so am hoping the smoke won't be horrible.

Been on the Magic a couple of times with a couple more times booked, love the ship but have to agree with the comments regarding the smoke in the casino. If you dont smoke you will not want to be in the casino for any length of time if at all. It is also bad right outside of the casino around the ocean plaza area. In the evening when the casino bar is full of smokers the smoke fog drifts outside the casino somewhat.

The one good thing about the layout on that deck is that you can go outside and around the casino on the deck that is outside but once back inside and anywhere near the casino will be intolerable for the most part. It is disgusting and pretty bad as the night goes as unfortunately the smokers huddle around that one particular bar and basically chain smoke for hours. It is enough to make your eyes burn even just walking through, it seems like the 18% of America that still smokes are on cruise ships :(....

We were on the Magic last November for 8-days and are returning again this November for 7-days. Didn't really notice it being any worse than other casino areas on other ships. I guess it's something we just come to expect and don't stay in there for long periods of time. Haven't really noticed it being that bad in the ocean plaza area, which is where we frequent most evenings after dinner for the live music near the alchemy bar. Looking forward to returning to the Magic again before it gets switched out with the Breeze next year.

It's bad, but I couldn't say it was any worse than any other Carnival ship.

Out of all my cruises, I felt like the smoking situation on Carnival ships is a lot worse than Royal and Holland (Eurodam is smoke free!!) based on my experience.

I don't like how Carnival designs a major walkway through the Casino.

Yes, the cigarette smoke in and around the casino on Magic is as bad as Dream. If you want to play in the casino, you'll want to visit during non-peak times or otherwise avoid the area.

FYI, smokers "huddle around" that one particular bar for several reasons - one being that smoking is no longer permitted on balconies and another being that it's the only inside area that allows smoking. I guess the idea is that since smoking is allowed in the casino itself, allow smoking at the bar near the casino. I know that some ships supposedly allow smoking at one of the night clubs, but it's usually not open during the day and full of the young'uns at night.

Heres the deal, smokers smoke more when they drink. The casino bar is the only place where both can be done. This causes more smokers to go to the casino. Smokers also tend to gamble more than non smokers.

John Heald just said yesterday in a video that when the casino was non-smoking (paradise) that revenue was low and the ship never sold out. Now I know times have changed but believe me the casinos were hopping on our Magic cruise. I'm talking slammed full of smoking gamblers at night and at the bar. during the day was much less action. I suggest you gamble during the day or use the outside deck to get around the casino if you don't smoke or want to avoid it.

oh...I am a smoker/gambler/drinker. I spend most of my evenings on a cruise in the casino.
