Christmas cruise with a 14 year old (Indie vs Epic)

Recommended Posts

Looking for a Christmas cruise to cater for a 14 year old.

Narrowed down the selection to Royal Car. Independence of the Seas or Norwegian Epic.

What are peoples thoughts?

Been on both.

Epic is a great ship but i think you will struggle with a standard cabin layout and size.

Epic will also get you for more extras.

Indy is the best all round ship.

Worth pointing out that the spa on the epic is the best we have used

Edging towards the Independence, concerned about what's left of the ports on route.....

Epic Pros

- "included" perks

- better dining options

- more late-night snack options

- better water slides

- The Haven (if it's in your budget)

- thermal spa is amazing

- better comedy shows

- Waterfront is a cool, underused spot

- Howl at the Moon

Epic Cons

- small pools

- more pax per ton

- location of casino makes the entire 678 smell like smoke

Indie Pros

- larger staterooms & balconies

- easy to navigate layout

- better MDR food

Indie Cons

- none, really, Indie is a great ship

Our boys aren't teens yet, so I can't comment on teens clubs. I would expect they are comparable. Both ships were great for us. Our boys prefer Royal's kids clubs, so that's who we normally sail with. But I like to mix it up. Sailing Oasis next week an Getaway in January.

I would make this decision based on price & itinerary.
