Lady_Gamecock Posted December 10, 2005 #1 Share Posted December 10, 2005 I have decided to treat myself sometime next week to a nice pregnancy massage while we're underway - probably the day we're in Ocho Rios. I'm looking forward to it, but everything that I've read says to check and see if they offer Pregnancy Massages as, some deep tissue massages may actually promote contractions..... (That doesn't bode well for a quality cruise experience...heehee.) Anyone know the massage menu in the SPA? Also, does the SPA on Century serve food? Thanks Bunches! Lady_G and Baby Causey

ocngypz Posted December 10, 2005 #3 Share Posted December 10, 2005 The spa on the Century does not have a spa cafe That is only found on Milliennium class ships. When I have set my appointments for massages, one of the questions they ask is if you are pregnant. They can refuse you treatment. It's all about liability. chessbriar Posted December 11, 2005 #5 Share Posted December 11, 2005 With regard to pregnancy massage, if you cannot lay on your stomach, you can not get one. My wife was six months pregnant The mos they were willing to do was a facial that included face massage and neck and shoulders. good Luck
marty7070 Posted December 11, 2005 #6 Share Posted December 11, 2005 I would contact your Travel Agent and have them contact the Cruise line for confirmation. We just got off the Serenity 12/06, one of our tablemates was 7 weeks Pregnant and they would not do any type of Massage, not even a foot Massage. They recommended a Facial, but nothing that involved a massage. As per the Manager, they were not offered due to possible health complications. I was surprised they had such a strict policy, Pregnancy Massages are common and many of my friends have had massages while pregnant. I am not sure if it is a Steiner Policy for all lines or varies from ship to ship.
flagger Posted December 11, 2005 #7 Share Posted December 11, 2005 There are specific pressure points that must be avoided when doing a pregnancy massage. It is a specialised type of massage and requires extra training beyond the normal massage therapist training. IMHO, I would never get a pregnancy massage aboard a ship and only seek someone out on land who had the specific training for one.
