South America on the Crown in Jan.

We leave for the Crown this coming weekend -- 12/18 sailing. Packing is somewhat of a challenge, as Santiago and Buenos Aires are in the 90's, while Ushuaia (note live port cam and weather on kroooz-cams.com) and the Faulklands are cool (30's), damp and windy. All the advice we've gotten is to "layer." We have light weight, wind-proof and damp-proof jackets we got from Land's End which worked well along the Rhine in Germany last Fall. We'll wear a shirt and sweat shirt under the jacket as need be. You can also go to weatherbase.com for average weather in each of the ports as well as a number of websites (I like weatherunderground.com) for current weather and temperatures. We've taken NCL ship excursions for the past 5 cruises, and have mostly enjoyed them. Best wishes, and we'll post a review on the NCL board when we return.

Merry Christmas from not-so-sunny Florida!

Can't answer from first hand knowledge - we are going 'round the Horn on Regal Princess Mar 06, but have read that it is often pretty chilly/windy down around the Falklands, so we plan on layering.

Plan on the same layering of clothes in the fjords/glacier areas. Has worked for us with Alaskan/Norwegian/New Zealand glaciers/fjords.

Enjoy your trip. Haven't been on the Crown since 8-90, when she was flagship of the late great Royal Cruise Lines.

We are going on the Regal Princess in early January and we are taking our windproof/waterproof jackets, gloves, hat, scarf and overpants to keep the windchill out.

We are going further south than you but I believe that the wind is the worry and underneath our jackets we will layer.

It is a hard one to pack for as we will be experiencing both heat and humidity, cold as we have ever felt (coming from sunny Australia) and weather that ranges in between the two extremes.
