Monnom Posted November 15, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 15, 2017 I'm seriously debating booking a cruise for one out of New York for New Year's. I've never travelled anywhere alone before and I'm a little nervous about it. Would 'you' do it? I'm worried instead of being home alone this year, I'll be alone on a ship full of people

You will not be alone if you reach out to others by starting a conversation with them. At mealtime ask to be seated at a sharing table. Meet other solo travelers in the meetings at studio cabins lounge.

LuvRVacay Posted November 15, 2017 #5 Share Posted November 15, 2017 You should go - sign up on the roll call for the cruise; a great way to meet people through the meet and mingle they have.
pinklady65 Posted November 15, 2017 #6 Share Posted November 15, 2017 Do it, Sign up for the roll call and then you will know some people and they usually arrange to meet up for sail away
WashyWashyHappyHappy95 Posted November 15, 2017 #7 Share Posted November 15, 2017 Also if you've got a good book and a view of the open ocean who cares if you're alone. Load up your Kindle, meditate to the sounds of the wind and water, and if you're really craving human contact go to the solos meetup or the Cruise Critic meet and greet. That said, treating a cruise almost like a monastic experience can be lovely.
Rare fabnfortysomething Posted November 15, 2017 #8 Share Posted November 15, 2017 I travel with my husband but we tend to have different interests on board summed up by he does bar I do spa starting with attending meet and greet it's a great ice breaker and you tend to bump into same people all cruise added to the solo travellers meet ups each evening a cruise is so much easier to socialise with "strangers" than say in a hotel bar without feeling awkward

iCruiseTooMuch Posted November 15, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 15, 2017 Cruised solo 13 times. You can meet as many or as few people as you want. That's the beauty of solo cruising. Also, you can do whatever you want whenever you want! BTW, Going solo on NCL Epic Dec 9th. Sent from my iPad using Forums
lilly2015 Posted November 15, 2017 #11 Share Posted November 15, 2017 I can absolutly relate, was so nervous and unsure before my first solo Cruise. Now: can't think of anything better 😊 NCL does a great job with the Solo Cruisers, you will feel welcome and wanted! Just think about yourself at Midnight with a glass of Champagne (or your favourite Beverage) looking up in the Sky and every Star is a good Wish just for you for the New Year Happy Sailing 🍸

Monnom Posted November 16, 2017 Author #19 Share Posted November 16, 2017 I was on The Getaway last year as a solo passenger and had a blast. Did you find you mixed in well with the other solos? Sometimes it's a big group of people travelling together who take up all the solo cabins, so I'll have to see. ;)

I'm worried instead of being home alone this year, I'll be alone on a ship full of people  I would totally do it! I went on my first solo cruise on the Epic, had a great time and made friends I still keep in touch with.
