starbug Posted December 13, 2005 #1 Share Posted December 13, 2005 Hi, I've you're going on it soon, please could someone do me a small favour please. When we were on it, Capt. Nick Bates' announcements included quotes from Patrick O'Shaughnessy (not sure of the spelling). Would anyone mind asking the one of the QE2 staff where you could get a copy of Patrick O'Shaughnessy's quotes please? Thanks in advance. starbug
CruiserBruiser Posted December 13, 2005 #2 Share Posted December 13, 2005 I'll be on the 18th December cruise. I'll certainly try and remember to ask for you. To help me remember, can you tell me who this person is (was)? If I know a little bit more background it might help jog my memory at an opertune moment. Cheers! wotec Posted December 13, 2005 #3 Share Posted December 13, 2005 Capt Bates published a small book and I believe some of those quotes are in that book. However, as of November, Capt Bates' book was sold out. Perhaps you could ck on that for starbug. Martyn Moss, Cruise Director, formerly CD on Caronia, use to use some of Patrick O's quotes - you could ask him where to get the book of quotes. Capt. Bates may still be on board, I think it is the beginning of the World Cruise when the Princess Capt Rynd gets on board (and I wouldn't ask Capt. Rynd) but you could write a note to Capt Bates or the secretary to the captain when you are on board.
sweep Posted December 13, 2005 #4 Share Posted December 13, 2005 When we were on the QE2 at the end of October copies of Capt Bates' book were available in the QE2 bookshop.
starbug Posted December 13, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted December 13, 2005 CruiserBruiser and wotec, Thanks for your replies.:) Patrick O'Shaughnessy wrote a number of amusing wise tips. One of them was "Don't test the depth of water with both feet" I bought Capt. Nick Bates' book "A pinch of salt" whilst on board recently and I did not notice any of Patrick O's quotes. Hope you enjoy your cruise CruiserBruiser, it must be a great atmosphere to spend Christmas and New Year on board. When arriving in Portugal, you will have a good view of the bridge, it’s the same design as the one in San Francisco. Thanks, starbug.
