Anyone booked to stay in Hampton inn and suites Jan 5 and 6 Hope their website is correct - I have also called them and they assure that reservation will be secure !?? Thanks We spent a couple days there before our Dec 2 cruise. We spent one day in Old San Juan and another day on the beach and walking through the neighborhood of our airbnb. Both days we had no difficulty finding open places to eat and shop. Traffic lights are still out, so driving was interesting but doable. xvi Posted December 14, 2017 #3 Share Posted December 14, 2017 We spent 5 days pre cruise last month. Honestly, I think they've done a great job with the clean up and many places are business as usual. The beach is wonderful, and is most beautiful around the Ocean Park area (easy bus ride) and we spent many hours there. Pretty much all the casinos are open. Old San Juan was very nice. We loved the Placita at night, very lively. We also had great food. Would be happy to answer any questions.

xvi Posted December 15, 2017 #5 Share Posted December 15, 2017 Oh for sure. Everything is open and there’s air conditioning.
mollyeilis Posted December 15, 2017 #6 Share Posted December 15, 2017 xviDid you feel power was restored in OSJ? The thing about power is that sometimes it’s being supplied by generators. So ac can work, lights can work, but maybe a place doesn’t have actual power company power. I feel like that distinction is important in discussions (it’s easy to hear they don’t have power and think they have no lights etc).
Mismatched Posted December 16, 2017 #7 Share Posted December 16, 2017 As of today, Dec. 15th, power is restored to 100% of Old San Juan: https://www.elnuevodia.com/noticias/locales/nota/energizanel100delviejosanjuan-2382698/

xvi Posted December 16, 2017 #9 Share Posted December 16, 2017 Definitely. And a lot of our taxi drivers were trying to sell us on tours also.
LittleYiaYia Posted December 16, 2017 #10 Share Posted December 16, 2017 xvi, would you please share where you had dinner? Our favorite restaurant The Parrot Club is closed. We also enjoy Barrachina, but will be 4 days pre-cruise and after, so need some suggestions. We prefer Old San Juan as it is easy to walk to restaurants. xvi Posted December 16, 2017 #11 Share Posted December 16, 2017 I guess it depends on what type of dining you like, so it’s quite subjective. We haven’t been to the Parrot Club before so I have no comparisons for you on that front, but we stopped in at Barrachina and it wasn’t “us”. We’re a young couple who like fresh, creative food but not necessarily fancy or upscale. We also didn’t spend a ton of time in Old San Juan on this trip... but I would recommend Pirilo pizza in old San Juan as it’s some of the best we’ve had (in its own way, not compared to Italian / neopolitan pizza). It is on Fortaleza street. Lovely old building, and ask to be seated upstairs as it is nicer than the main floor. Otherwise we liked Kasalta at breakfast (not in old San Juan) because it was across from our hotel and a very local / traditional place. Mostly we ate at the hipster-type eateries around Santurce, Condado, and Ocean Park, like Kabanas and B de Burro, which was excellent if you like Mexican food. LittleYiaYia Posted December 16, 2017 #12 Share Posted December 16, 2017 Thank You, xvi. We do love Mexican food but don't think we can find any in OSJ. We aren't very picky, love seafood, Puerto Rican and Cuban food. I think we will try Raices and Verde Mesa. Their menus look interesting.

That must be next door to our hotel the Casa Blanca which is at 316 Calle Fortaleza. We will definitely check it out. So many restaurants, I don't think we will go hungry!
