Do I need to set my iPhone to airplane mode as soon as I set foot on the ship...

I would recommend making any last minute calls, your “I’m on a boat and you aren’t” Facebook post, and then going into airplane mode. You don’t want to forget and pay the price (literally) later.

Basically, you really just need to turn off Cellular Data. That is where the big $$$ gets billed.

I use my Verizon cruise package that lets me use text and voice on a pay as you go basis (while the ship is at sea). We do this for emergency contact with our family at home. Prices are cheap enough if you communicate, but you don't go on Airplane mode. We turn off Cellular date just to make sure there are no surprise bills when we get home.
