Hotel In Puerto Rico

I will be sailing out of San Juan on 3/27. We would like to spend fly down on the 26th and spend the night. Can anyone suggest a reasonable hotel near the port. Sailing Royal Caribbean on the Empress of the Seas.

I think the key word here is "reasonable". I have researched hotels in San Juan for the past 8 months and found just about every decent hotel to be around the $250 a night mark. I have never used priceline or other similar services because I need to know upfront which hotel I am getting and that isn't an option with priceline. If you are willing to take the chance - I suggest you use priceline and you may do better than the $250 which seems to be the going rate per night in San Juan.

We are booked at the Intercontinental for our pre-cruise stay.....and you guessed it.....$250 per night

We stayed at a small place called El Prado Inn. We found the people very friendly and the price last year was $100 per night. The rooms were clean - it is definitely not a 5* but it had a continental breakfast and we stayed there for a couple nights. I am thinking about doing another southern Caribbean cruise in January 2007 and would not hesitate to stay there again. You can check them out - www.elpradoinn.net

We stayed at a small inn called El Prado Inn. It is definitely not a 5* but it was clean, the people were very friendly and it was within 2 blocks of the major hotels that charge $250/night. We could go to the casinos and eating places were nearby. I am planning on a southern Caribbean cruise in January 2007 and would not hesitate to stay there again. Hotel Milano is reasonably priced and right in downtown San Juan within walking distance to everything. It's definately not a 5* hotel, but it's clean and the people are friendly. If I ever get back there, that's where I'll be staying. Another thing to remember is that some of the luxury hotels are not in the middle of town. You have to take a taxi to get anywhere. Hotel Milano is within walking distance to everything.

I booked Hotel Milano for our 4/22 Serenade cruise. Looks very charming and was very reasonable. I like what 've read about the hotel on tripadvisor.com as well. I hear it's a very short cab ride to the port.

One thing I've learned, as said by an earlier poster, 'reasonable' is defined a little differently in San Juan.

Good luck with your search,

Kathy

We placed a bid on priceline for a "San Juan resort" we bid $100.00 and got the Marriott San Juan 4 star resort for our pre-cruise 2 night stay before our March 13, 2006 Empress of the Seas cruise. As far as I know, resorts in the San Juan area all have 4 stars so I wasn't nervous about ending up at a dirty or bad hotel since I requested a "resort in the San Juan area" only. After winning my bid, I then cancelled the reservation I had made on my own earlier for the Marriott, they were charging me $295.00 a night for the same type of room I had just won on priceline.

Also sailing out of San Juan on 3/27 EOS, did a lot of research for hotels and didn't find anything we liked. As had experience with Priceline, did a bid and got Marriott Resort/Casino at $100.00/night precruise..seems to be the going bid from web reference sites.

Are you aware there is a thread for meet and mingle for this cruise..check out the roll call for Empress. Maybe think about registering for the meet and mingle.
