Ended up going to the Piano Man show alone at 10:15, I tried to get into the 8:15 show but wasn’t there 45 minutes to an hour early so I had to wait for the later show.

Day 6 December 5, 2017 - Panama Canal, Panama

Today we vist Panama and the Panama Canal.

Our excursion was supposed to be walking tour of old panama city, visit Miraflores locks visitors centre, they change it because of construction at the old locks on the pacific side and replaced it with a visit to the Agua Clara visitors centre at the new locks we just transited, Not very happy about that, wanted to transit the new locks and visit the old. It was long tour over 6.5 hours.

Should have booked the excursion where you transit the old locks in a smaller boat.

Panama Canal Transit

We were on the promenade deck forward at 6:30AM and it was pretty full by then. Up on Deck 15 above the bridge was also packed with people. Having said that you could still get a decent view looking over people. Walked all around the top decks to get different views of the transit and went back up on Deck 15 above the bridge around 8:15 and it really opened up by then. I setup my go pro and got a bit of the transit in a time lapse video.

Instead of the Miraflores Locks visitor center we went to the Agua Clara visitor center before we headed out to Panama City

Before the ship went through the last lock, they were already calling Excursion Group 1 to meet for tenders. We were in Group 2, they called our group just was we were exiting the last lock. We didn’t leave right away since the ship was still moving the tenders were not yet ready.

Went to the 8:15 comedy show Jay Moore at 8PM and for the first time there were actually a couple of seats left so we got in. This is good because we were tired and didn’t do much after that.

Now what

24131536077_72f5652ba5_b.jpg

Most expensive passing of the new locks so far was a cargo ship that had to pay $829,468

25124625508_6f79acfe04_b.jpg

That 800K figure is from when the Canal Authority would ballyhoo record tolls. Not surprising the reporting of record tolls was beginning to cause some grumbling not only from some of the public but also other government agencies, as in " they need to do this, or do that with those large sums". Now a days the record tolls are kept close hold. However, tolls for some of the largest of the container ships have been a little north of $1.1 million.

Love the pictures:D!

The drive to the Sloth Sanctuary was about 45 minutes. Once there we were split into two groups of about 25. One group took the canoe ride first while the other visited the sloths.

We did the canoe first, NOTE: if you ever do this DO NOT SIT IT THE FRONT OF THE CANOE. They had 6 of us in each canoe and my wife and I were in the front there was no place for our feet and was extremely uncomfortable.

During the ride up and down what seemed to be a very shallow small river, we saw a Caiman, Toucan bird (and other birds), little crabs, a monkey and 3 sloths in the trees.
