Rare Radio Posted January 8, 2006 Author #26 Share Posted January 8, 2006 Hi Radio If you get a chance, could you let me know if you hear any feedback on the WiFi on the ship? I'm bringing my laptop in Feb., and hoping to use the WiFi, rather than the Cybercabin (slow speed). Thanks! I'm sure that Wi-Fi is available on all Radiance Class Ships.....but I will confirm it..... Radio ;) ;)
rubrrick Posted January 8, 2006 #27 Share Posted January 8, 2006 Good evening Radio....I await with baited breath to read your report from the Jewel...We are travelling from Scotland,UK to sail on the Jewel March 5th and 11th for a B2B and cant wait.It is our first time with RCI and have managed to get JS 1100 (must be beginners luck) I celebrate my 50th birthday whilst on board and my whole family are sooooo looking forward to this cruise. Have a safe and happy cruise and I look forward to reading all about it and hopefully pick up some great cruise tips along the way. Bon Voyage Happycruzer It's amazing how some come from the UK to cruise here, and we fly over there for our adventures. We did the Legend out of Southampton to the Canary Islands in May of last year, and this year we look forward to cruising out of Fort Lauderdale to England and then the Baltic. Somehow, we need to work together to be able to work on round trip airline tickets, that we can use one way and our UK neighbors can use the other way. Dream on Rick!;)

Nano Posted January 8, 2006 #35 Share Posted January 8, 2006 Radio - Your live reports are amazing! I was reading one from the Mariner a couple of years ago, and ended up booking on her as a result! We're trying to decide between another trip on the Mariner and trying out the Jewel in February, so I'll especially enjoy your comparisons of these two ships. We have two children 10 and almost 13, so please share your observations regarding children on the Jewel vs. the Mariner (number of kids, things to do, etc.). Thanks and Bon Voyage!! Rare Radio Posted January 8, 2006 Author #36 Share Posted January 8, 2006 Hello everyone...I am currently onboard the beautiful Jewel of the Seas ! It is a very nice day..Sunny, a little cool ( 66F )...But the weather should warm up for the rest of the week. I left the hotel at about 10:30am...I arrived at the port at about 10:45. I parked in the garage, then walked right in to the Terminal 25. I was whisked right through the check in process, and boarded the ship right at 11AM. It was very very quick ! I was very impressed. They separated the Diamond -Suite guests before the Security Check in and it was just a few minutes till I was on the Ship.... I had a very difficult time setting up Cybercabin...Its still not set up. Currently I am connected with My Cell Phone, and Mobile Office Kit. I will try to contact Guest Services later. At first glance, the ship appears overwhelming....it is gorgeous. I have visited many areas of the ship..and will visit many more as the week goes on. I will share many of the areas with you. It is very impressive. The Muster Drill will begin shortly....then sailaway is at 5 PM. There is alot to do today... ( I really need to get this CyberCabin connection working) Here are a few pics from today...I will post lots more later...I will try to increase the resolution on future posts.... Thanks for tuning in ! Radio Fiest look at Jewel of the Seas The Platinum -Diamond -Suite Lounge Gangway Welcome Aboard ! ! My E2 Cabin on Deck 10 . divaofdisney Posted January 8, 2006 #38 Share Posted January 8, 2006 Radio- thanks for the great pictures! I can't wait to see and hear more of your trip. I am from your neck of the woods- right here in Ocean Pines, just outside of Ocean City MD. I lived in Towson for 27 years then moved to Eldersburg for about 4 yrs before moving down here. If you could please take a few pictures of the dining room and kids area if you have time. I would like to try a cruise on a Radiance class ship after my trip on the freedom. I thank you in advance. I have something to look forward to now for the rest of the week. It also looks like a beautiful day- not a cloud in the sky from what I can see. Hope it continues. Have a wonderful week. :)

German Wunderkind Posted January 8, 2006 #40 Share Posted January 8, 2006 I hope you like the Jewel. Took her over to the US in September and it was a great cruise. If you have access to the Concierge Lounge please let us know who is the concierge. You are going to Costa Maya - our itinerary was altered and we have a port of call there. Please report what kind of shore excursions are worth thinking about there at the moment. Thank you and enjoy.

Great pics - you really get a feel of the excitement of boarding the ship! tarp14 - hopefully we will run into you - my sister and I are sailing on the 14th as well! Be sure to meet us in the Schooner bar at 3pm - some cruisecritic members are having a sail-away party (we are all going to be wearing a Hawiian lei to identify ourselves)! Did they let Platinum pre-board along with Diamond and Suite. From your pictures, looks like Platinum has priority check-in with Diamond and suites. Thanks Yes Sherri....The signs show it...But they only called Suites, and Diamond.... Though, the lines were non existent. It would have been quick for Platinum also. Rare Radio Posted January 9, 2006 Author #46 Share Posted January 9, 2006 Hello Everyone...I've had a chance to explore more of the Ship...and have taken many photos. I will have to say that I am disappointed that RCI has decided not to build any more Radiance Class Ships...The layout and facilities are awesome. I will try to involve all of you to as many areas that I can throughout he week via Photos and descriptions. The Captain is Thore Thorolven. The CD is Simeon Baker..I remember him from Mariner of the Seas... The Welcome aboard show was very nice....Rick Corso was the Comedian, and he was very Funny. There will be a Key West/ and Caribbean Shopping Talk in the Safari Club next...with Karaoke later.... The Concierge Club is much smaller than on Voyager Class or Enchantment. The Concierge though, is very nice and accommodating (Mpho Ndlovu). He can really run the Lounge...even when busy. It is 163 miles from Fort Lauderdale to Key West...I can still see lights from land though, and I think another Radiance Class ship going the same way as us. My connection tonight is very weak ! I was able to connect at 33.6, that will not allow uploading of pics (it took me 10 minutes to post one pic with this message...)....Tomorrow I will reconnect with a fast connection in Key West. Many people ask, so...tonights free Movies were Anchorman, and Spiderman2. In the Jewel Cinema is "The Pacifier". I was able to win a few in the Casino Royale tonight....I saw a lot of people winning a lot ! ! I will check in later if my connection is better... I will be heading up to the Solarium. The pool there is much warmer !!! Radio ;) .
