At Dinner, Do You Wait To Eat Till Everyone Is Served?

I started this thread because, lately, so many of the people I've eaten with, even at the Captain's Table, no less, did not know to wait for his signal to begin eating. I am embarrassed for and by these people. So I thought I would ask the question, knowing that most cc'ers know the answer. Perhaps some who really don't know they were being rude would read the thread and pick up on the proper way to do things. That was my hope. Who would have ever thought that a thread about when to pick up your fork and eat could deteriorate into the kind of name calling we see here. I hope that we can continue in a more civilized manner without the name calling.

WOW! A thread on manners and certain posts need to be deleted for just plain rudeness.

It is only polite to wait till all are served when dining with others on a cruise. Usually doesn't take long for everyone to be served and doesn't make the ice cream melt.

It's a good thing laxatives come in several forms. And do you know what a few drops of Visine in a beverage can do to your system OUCH
The things you talk about are illegal. And to think such a thing is brought up in a manners thread. Talk about shameful. Besides on a cruise, they never have an idea one's tipping practices.

The dining room has always been, for me, a time to meet and enjoy new people, expand ones horizons and, lastly, have a good meal. For people who just want to hit the food trough why not eat at an alternative venue where politeness and decorum are a little more relaxed?
As one has said previously, the dining room is where the "better" food is. If I want to meet people, I socialise on deck. Mostly we stay to ourselves and read books on our balcony. Lukewarm food or melted ice cream or warm food that should be cold is just gross.

And to go eat at the specialty restaurant alone? How boring. So much nicer to share the experience with someone!
Alone as in with Ms. Flagger.

I have to say I'm so thrilled I happened on this thread.

DH and I were thinking on trying Celebrity, but now it seems clear that the passengers are officious and judgemental, and the staff is vindictive.

I'm quite sure we''l be much happier on a ship where we don't have to keep a copy of "Miss manners" in our cabin so we don't offend anyone, and we don't have to worry about what the waiter may or may not have put in our food!

NCL here we come :D

For someone who picks a team that wins a championship once a century I am sure your judgement is probably correct once in a while.. The rest of us will just have to make do with X passengers, warts, idiosyncracies and all.. Happy cruising..

I hope you enjoy your cruise. It'll be your loss because Celebrity cruisers are the best and you will be missing out on meeting some charming people!

Thankfully, I don't need to keep a copy of a manners handbook handy. I grew up being taught to be courteous and considerate.

I think it was Jerry Lewis talking about people asking him why he did the MS telethons that said this, but the thought can also apply to this subject (and several other threads).

No.

We cannot stand cold food or melted ice cream or lukewarm salad.

Does anyone know how long one would have to wait with their salad in front of them before it became 'luke warm'?

A follow-up question might be, if you discover that 2 people at your table don't plan to tip the waiter, will you tip more or leave a second envelope so you waiter is properly taken care of? I think I would, but thankfully, I'm not on the same cruise.

That's a little co-dependent but if you have the money, why not.
