For lst Timers - Is The Spirit A Good Bet?

DH and I have cruised many times and finally got relatives to join us. They have never cruised. We've all booked on The Spirit in February. Any opinions on how our lst timers will react?

The Spirit was our very first cruise - and we were absolutely awed. It

truly is a beautiful ship - and for us, it was very easy to navigate.

Of course, it is somewhat different since dry dock, and sailing out of NY, instead of Seattle.

You all should have a marvelous time.

The Spirit is a unique beautiful ship. The Asian decor in the public rooms is unique and wonderful. The cabins are of average size, with nice size showers in the cruising world. If the beds are too firm, ask for an egg crate to soften them.

The Spirit is a freestyle ship with a number of restaurants and lounges. The food onboard is good, better in the speciality restaurants. There is enough entertainment on board to satisfy most cruisers. A large casino for the size of the ship, with a large swimming pool compared to other cruise ships.

Keep in mind the ship was orginally built for the Asian market and therefore its electrical wiring is limited to 500 watts, leave your hair dryer at home. The suites on board may not be the largest afloat, but they are very nice. The Spirit also has a large number of adjoining rooms, which is very nice for extended families cruising together.

After the drydock, if the Spirit lacks anything, its more suites, especially mini suites. The galley equipment has been improved, a larger giftshop and photo gallery area have been added along with another two lounges near the casino.

While the Spirit is not the largest or newest of NCL's fleet of ship, NCL considers the Spirit to be one of its newer ships, she now sports new hull art. NCL had a choice of ships to use as the second ship out of New York City year round, and you'll agree NCL chose well picking the Spirit over the Sun, even though the Sun has more suites.

I have now sailed on both the Spirit and the Sun. While the Sun's cabins may have more drawer space and a test with portable DVD players, just about everything else is better on the Spirit. Especially the Blue Lagoon restaurant, something I missed on the Sun. While the Sun maybe a couple of years newer, its class design is derived from the mid-1990s design whereas the Spirit is of a newer design of the very late 1990s. The Spirit should and without any doubt will be a great ship to serve New York City well as a complement to the Dawn.
