Eric Klar Posted December 23, 2005 #1 Share Posted December 23, 2005 Has anyone been to Dawn Beach recently? How did you get there? How did you get back to the ship? How was the snorkeling? Thanks for any response, Eric
Sheffie Posted December 23, 2005 #2 Share Posted December 23, 2005 We haven't been there recently, but when we went there we went by taxi and went back by taxi (went with some others on the way back). We found the snorkeling to be good. We saw some fish that we hadn't seen on other islands. I hear that if the wind is from a certain direction the waves can be rough. The locals should know how it will be that day. We plan on gong back there this April. Have a great cruise!
ChrisFromOxford Posted December 28, 2005 #3 Share Posted December 28, 2005 Our original plans were to go on guided hike…but after waiting an hour we realized we got stiffed. This was booked through Caribbean Adventures. Plan B…go to the beach of course. We got a cab over to Dawn Beach (east side) and spent a few hours there. We brought our own snorkeling gear and enjoyed the beautiful reef activity. The water was fantastic and the view of the nearby islands was great. We stayed by the resort and did not notice any topless or nude bathing. Further south there was some topless bathing. There is a bar there with fun drinks priced at $6 each. A few ladies wanted us to buy items…but we told one of them that we would buy at the end of our visit and she seemed to convey that message to the rest of them and we weren’t bothered anymore. True to our word…we contributed to the economy. The cab driver was fantastic and picked us up at the agreed upon time…although he went by St. Maarten time and we went by ship time so he was one hour early. He was the same driver who took us over. I don't remember the cost...but it wasn't bad. He talked and told us interesting facts along the way and then dropped us at the cheap liquor store. We ended up buying some cheap liquor (too much we found out later on at customs when we had to pay a few extra dollars!). We felt pretty safe walking from town back to the ship. chipster Posted December 28, 2005 #4 Share Posted December 28, 2005 Hey there Chris - how long was the taxi ride to Dawn Beach?
ChrisFromOxford Posted December 29, 2005 #5 Share Posted December 29, 2005 Not long...maybe 15 minutes or so. Somewhere on these boards is a list of cab prices for St. Maarten. Our cost was exactly what was on this list. We picked up the cab on the road leading from the dock.
PINEVIEW01 Posted January 2, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 2, 2006 Has anyone been to Dawn Beach recently? How did you get there? How did you get back to the ship? How was the snorkeling? Thanks for any response, Eric We were there November 7th or 8th. As Sheffie mentioned if the winds are high and out of the east, you won't see any thing. It was way to ruff to snorkel. We grabed a taxie at the pier. If you wait to fill a van it is $1 less per person. Our group of 4 and another of 6 hit the stand at the same time so, as a group we saved $10. Short ride and a nice narration. Beautiful beach.
