wfgoode Posted March 2, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 2, 2018 Our group of three (two disabled) have a 7 day cruise to Alaska planned. Because all are doing fairly well right now we are hoping to change to a land/sea, but are on a very tight budget. We are trying to find the least expensive way to see Denali, perhaps the land package with the one day in Denali. Has anyone done this vacation? Is it possible to see any of the park on this tour? We were told there isn’t time for a bus trip into the park. We are available to travel June through August. I know that obviously a 2 or 3 day Denali tour would be better but out of our price range. Thanks so much for your help.
IllinoisGirl1978 Posted March 2, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 2, 2018 I did the one day two years ago, it went by too fast. The only tour I did was the Husky Homestead. There is a shuttle that will take you into the Park and drop you off at the visitor Center.
oaktreerb Posted March 2, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 2, 2018 Does the one night Denali include Fairbanks? There is a two night Denali that includes Anchorage, not Fairbanks and would be much better. It is a D6C land and sea journey that starts in Vancouver with a 7 night cruise, bus to Denali for two nights with an included TWT into the park, train back to Anchorage with an overnight. One night in Denali is not enough time.. The D6 is a 10 night itinerary. Two nights Denali is a minimum stay to actually get into the park. IllinoisGirl1978 Posted March 2, 2018 #4 Share Posted March 2, 2018 It does include one night in Fairbanks, we had a great bus driver who pointed out a lot of sites. He pulled over when Denali Revealed herself. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Most of the HAL bus drivers we have had in Alaska have been excellent. They actually get excited when those special moments arise so I’m sure he/she was excited to share that moment with you. They also have some great stories to tell and information to impart!
alwaysfrantic Posted March 3, 2018 #6 Share Posted March 3, 2018 It will be cheaper if you are interested in putting it together yourself. You could take the train from the ship. Rent a car and drive. Find a bus tour to get you there. Take HALs transportation the the anchorage airport and rent a car there. A combination of any of the above. When you get to Denali you can book a hotel that has the shuttle to the park information center. The tours in will leave from there. You need more than one day. I_r_a Posted March 3, 2018 #7 Share Posted March 3, 2018 Hi wf, > We were told there isn’t time for a bus trip into the park. Then, don't bother. You will need an overnight stop, with a transfer to the visitor center and the day-long tour bus. Look out for the mountain top, bears, Dall Sheep, elk, eagles, moose. "Denali" translates into English as "like, awesome". There is a bearcam at https://explore.org/livecams/brown-bears/brown-bear-salmon-cam-brooks-falls Have you looked for land-cruise options at princess dot com as well as at HAL? Enjoy your visit.
