Hotel in Tampa

Looking for an inexpensive hotel to spend the night before our cruise on the Granduer. Needs to be clean and in a safe area. What is the name of the port. This will be our first time there. Is it best to stay near the airport or the port? How far is it between the two? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

We stayed at the Tampa Staduim Holiday Inn - not sure of the cost since my brother had points it covered the cost of the rooms. They offer free shuttle service from airport to hotel. If you are just looking for someplace to sleep than this is fine. There is a steakhouse right beside the hotel and they also have a pizza place that will deliver. We just flew in night before to sleep and then go to the port. The hotel also offers transportation from hotel to port for a $5.00 charge per person. If you want to do this sign up as soon as you check in as this fills up fast. This is were the NY Yankees stay for spring training. They were also adding on when we were at the hotel in February!

We stayed at the Residence Inn downtown for 2 nights. We really liked this hotel. They had a free shuttle to the ship and to all the hot spots in Tampa.
