Check-in Procedure - MSC Divina

We are booked on a Mediterranean cruise on the Divina (our first with MSC) and it seems that the check-in procedure is a bit different compared to check-in on other cruises. On Celebrity, for example, a Sea Pass Card is issued on arrival, and photo is taken. This card is your room key and your credit card has already been linked to this card for expenses, etc. The account is set up before ever getting to the ship from home.

Is this the same on MSC? From some of the posts I've seen, it appears that you need to establish a link between your room key and your credit card info once aboard the ship. Is this correct?

If so, where, when and how do you so this?

 

Also, if you have a drink package, is it noted on the room key?

There are electronic kiosks onboard that you can use to link your credit card to your account before the end of the cruise.

Hi Dennis,

 

We just got off the Divina the week before last. We boarded in Marseille since people get on and off at every port this may be a bit different since the dock/ports are not all configured the same. Our table mates that got on the Genoa had a similar experience.

 

You will get to the port, you will give your luggage to a porter and get on a check in line. If you still have your luggage at that point they can take it from you then. You give your cruise documents that you print at home and show your passports. Seems silly but make sure that you know your cabin number, they keep the boarding paper. They will give you a boarding number and sent you to a waiting area. Then you wait until you number is called. You find your way to your cabin and you will find your cruise card on your bed along with any other stuff you might get like we were Fantastica so we had the drink coupon book, also we had pre purchased a coffee package and the internet that info was there too.

 

If I am remembering correctly they didn't take our photo until the next morning when we went to disembark. I am a little fuzzy about that piece.

 

As for setting us the credit card, its very easy. There are machines that you select your language stick your cruise card in then follow the instructions. You will need to have your credit card on hand for this step. There is no rush to do this, we were accruing charges for four days before adding our credit card. Just be sure to do in, as we saw people being denied access off at disembarkation and being sent to the giant line to settle up.

 

Drink packages and other info is noting on your card. One little issue we had was, when booking on the US website you are giving free water in the dining room. This wasn't noted on our card and the waiter at dinner insisted we pay for water at dinner. It took several trips to the desk and a few days to get this sorted out.

 

We had the most amazing time on our trip and I hope that you do as well!!
