Snorkleing in Coz

I have just read info that Chankanaab is not open yet. That was our intended destination on 1/12/05. We plan on renting a car and driving the island as we have done 3 other times with other family members. Anyone know of a good area similar to Chankanaab, we can take the kids and family to with good snorkeling? Or do we just need to do the excursion thing?

My husband and I have been to Xel-Ha on the mainland and the snorkeling there was AMAZING!!! A little pricey as an excursion but I hear excursions are the only way to go as far as mainland because of the tendering in Cozumel at this time. We have also snorkeled off of the beaches of Cozumel and have seen some neat things but Xel-Ha was by far the best!!! I hope this helps a little!:)
