Hotels in Fort Lauderdale?

We are looking for recommendations for hotels in Fort Lauderdale, as we will have two nights there before our cruise and one night afterwards. We are a family of 4 with a 14 and 17 year old.

We stayed at the Ramada Inn, 5 minutes from the airport. We paid 89$ Dec 22(thursday, 1 night) price included transportation from airport to hotel, transportation to the port, and to top it off a free buffet breakfast. We booked this hotel again for feb(saturday night,145$,1 night). But its worth it for all they give you. Good luck GGG;)

Ive heard people say to go to Priceline...put in downtown Ft Lauderdale and 3 stars for a very good hotel that wont be far from the port. Good luck

Try the Renaissance it's very close to the pier or perhaps the Courtyard Marriot - I believe both have shuttles to pier, if not, a taxi is very inexpensive being that it's so close.

The Ramada mentioned above is not a good option! :eek:

 

The SE 17th Street area is the best area for cruisers to stay. It's a very SAFE neighborhood, less than 10 minutes from FLL, just outside the entrance to Port Everglades, with dozens of restaurants, shops, grocery, drug & liquor stores as well as the very popular Water Taxi all within safe, easy walking distance.

We'll be staying there on 1/7 pre-cruise. I'll report back on this hotel after our cruise. Has anyone stayed there already?

I've been in all those hotels I listed above within the past few months. Holiday Inn Express "Convention Center" is a lot nicer than AmeriSuites, but IMO the nicest of the 3 "budget" hotels is Extended Stay America.

That's good to hear. I was also considering the Extended Stay. Does it have all the usual hotel amenities or is it more for business travelers?

Well it's a no frills budget hotel. There is no pool, restaurant, valet, or anything like that. I have some friends who stayed there a couple of times recently and the rooms are spotlessly clean and still look like new. In walking through the rooms I didn't notice anything missing that a "normal" budget hotel room has.

 

There are dozens of restaurants within safe, easy walking distance, as well as shops, grocery, drug & liquor stores.

We stayed in LaQuinta in Hollywood, (26th Street) only 10 min to the pier. Free nice Free hot breakfast, nice Pool and Hot Tub

djemeenge - I have actually booked mine and two other familes into the La Quinta for April for 2 nites pre-cruise. Could you tell me if they have a nice pool area (we'll have more kids with us than adults, so this is verrryy important!!!) and are there decent places to eat within walking distance??? I'm always the one to make the plans and take the heat for it too!!! If you could fill me in on anything I may need to know I'd appreciate it.

AVOID this place at all cost!!! It's one of the nastiest, dirtiest, run down dumps in town! Read the reviews here and elsewhere, one gentleman actually slept in his car because he couldn't stand the room! :eek:

The rooms are HUGE with frig and kitchen, Breakfast Buffet was outstanding. Food and things to do in area, pretty darn good, quick trip

to and from port and the beaches.

 

We got an outstanding rate from Hotwire LY, TY it's tougher in FFL, I think due to the hurricane. Rates are way, way up compared to LY.

La Quinta is a decent hotel, not as much around it as the SE 17th Street hotels, but it's 10-15 minutes from the port & airport. I never paid any attention to the pool area, but there are a number of different types of restaurants within walking distance.

We got an outstanding rate from Hotwire LY, TY it's tougher in FFL, I think due to the hurricane. Rates are way, way up compared to LY.

It has nothing to do with the hurricanes, hotels were sold out or close to it, and at much higher rates for this winter/spring long before Wilma. It's due to the King Tut exhibit, and just increased tourism in general. More people are travelling than at any time since 9/11. It's just a supply and demand thing.

Hi: I was very pleased w/ LaQuinta. The pool and hot tub area is large and they have a cabana and nice grounds. Have pool towels for the kids. We had a two room suite--I have two boys--so two TVs and Hi-Speed net was included; great for the boys. They asked us if everything was OK shortly after check-in. Clean and safe, Mirco and Refridge in room, and a large Bathroom. We went to Red Loster which was w/i walking distance over the bridge and left I think. There is a shopping plaza nor to far w/ Target, Costo and other major chains. Also, fast food BK and Wendys if I remember correctly. Breafast was more than a roll and OJ. Has Hot waffles, fruit, muffins etc. better than some I've been too. Happy Cruising and Happy New Year.

Thanks for the info - I can rest a little easier knowing I won't be hearing about the hotel portion of our trip!!!! Now if I could only be sure about the excursions I booked us all on!!!!!! That's for another post though!!!
