We really enjoyed Belize! Belize City has a good tendering system of high speed boats that bring you to a pier that has a good sized mall area attached. It is similar to the port area in Antigua or Barbados. There is a pharmacy in the mall at the dock and the pharmacist is from New Orleans...they had a booming business!

We took the NCL DAWN tour of the Altun Ha Mayan ruins and the Old Belize River. The tour was 6 hours long. We were happy with the tours. The bus ride to the ruins was about 1 hour. The tour was about 2 hours, and OK for people with some walking difficulties but would be a little tough for a wheelchair, though much of the area was flat and grassy. We had never seen Mayan ruins before and those who were able, could climb one of the pyramids. Another 30 minute bus ride brought us to the river boat area where the lunch provided was good and there were some opportunities for shopping. We saw monkeys and many large crocodiles in the river…there should be NO Swimming signs posted on the river! The iguanas are so numerous on the lawns of the residences along the river, they should be called Belize squirrels! The last part of the tour is a power boat ride to the pier across the salt water bay..a lot of fun! It was a good tour and kept my 12 year old niece interested and happy for the day.

This is tied to a very old post but ! want to do this tour but have a question to which I can not find an answer. Can the Altu ho ruins/ Old Belize river tour offered by NCL be done by someone who can only walk short distances at a time (100-200 ft) due to PAD? Any info appreciated.
