We will be on that same cruise! I hope you have a wonderful experience. DH and I have NEVER had a bad experience with RCI. There are always things that don’t go as planned, even 1 cruise where our luggage didn’t make the ship (airline’s fault). We discovered that arriving a day ahead with trip insurance that covers lost luggage is no good when the airline tells you they have sent it to the port but it is actually 3 states away! On that cruise RCI bent over backwards to help us and make our cruise enjoyable.

We used to cruise with our teen boys. They always had a great time.

I can’t speak to whether it is worth the trouble to purchase and redeem them for yourself, but just to correct one point. Royal does have gift cards that can be used to pay toward an already booked cruise or even as onboard credit. https://www.royalcaribbeancertificates.com

 

The ones mentioned with the restrictions are different. They are usually sold at a discounted or promotional rate through AARP and Verizon, and I’m sure elsewhere.
