mljatsea Posted July 22, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 22, 2018 Thinking of this shore ex on our one day in Southampton on a QM2 crossing from Hamburg to NY in October. Has anyone done this and your thoughts? We don't need any more time in London and would consider Stonehenge where I have been but DH has not. Would appreciate recommendations. Rare John Bull Posted July 22, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2018 It's not high on the list of sights, and I do wonder whether in isolation it's worth your time and cost. It's difficult by public transport, perhaps by frequent train to Basingstoke then a ten-mile taxi ride or potentially a free shuttle. With a car (rented car or driver+car) you could combine it with one of - Whitchurch Silk Mill (2 miles west) - Highclere Castle ("Downton Abbey") (9 miles north) - Stonehenge (24 miles west) - Salisbury (10 miles south from Stonehenge) To give you an idea of locations, here's a googlemaps route https://goo.gl/maps/cijffVDvZem Of those destinations, Highclere Castle, Stonehenge & Salisbury would each take a big part of a day so in a port-of-call day you could only combine Laverstock with one of those - possibly plus Whitchurch Mill. (The gin distillery has a very strict age policy, even for just a tour. If a member of your party looks to be under the age of 25 they will need ID to prove they are aged at least 18.)
