Had a balcony last Sept. TV had open HDMI port's it was a Samsung.

Excuse my ignorance. I’m barely keeping up with technology. You need an HDMI port to watch stuff from your iPad on the TV screen??

What about attaching a DVD player. What kind of port does that require?

Besides having an HDMI port, most TVs require you to have a remote control to set it to the HDMI port. The ships use special remote controls that do not have all the features the regular remote controls have. With them you can not set the TV to use the HDMI port.

 

You could bring a universal remote control and set it to work on that TV but that usually requires some time and effort.
