Costa Magica Swimming Pools

good luck finding a "lane swim" pool on the Magica..... Those pools are infiltrated with kids non-stop. You couldn't do a lane swim if you tried in any pool on the Magica, and they close the pools SOOOOO early at night. On previous cruises we have enjoyed getting in the hot tub late at night, not on Costa they drain and net off their pools and hot tubs by 9 pm.....

Marc you said you have taken previous cruises - was the pool open 24 hours on your other cruises?

I was on NCL, RCCL, and Celebrity this past year and all of them closed their pools down between 8 - 9 at night for cleaning. Celebrity shut down hot tubs on our Christmas cruise by 8pm for cleaning. RCCL kept the hot tubs open until about 11 and NCL had them closed by the time 2nd seating ended for cleaning.

The only cruise I have been on with pools open late was the RCCL Explorer and what they did was they shut down one pool & half the hot tubs one night, and the next night closed the others early. But by midnight everything was closed.

Hey Marc, What was wrong with the adult only pool at the aft of the ship which had its own poolside bar and grill or did you not find that like you didnt find the chef making fresh omelettes in the morning?

TON of children and teens in it, it was a vacation time on our cruise where all kids were out of school so I figured there would be a ton of kids... I could care less as community pools with everyone's germs are not really my thing, but for the guy that wanted to "lane swim" in a Costa Magica pool, I tried to be honest and let him know that it was probably not going to happen. Sure is funny if you do not come here cheering on Costa and going rah rah it's like you'r blacklisted.

As far as the two Carnival cruises I took last year, while the ships were older, they did keep the pools and hot tubs open until at least 10 or 11, granted it was summer time and daylight lasted longer.... but made it better to do the hot tub thing.... without a bunch of kidlings and the like peeing in the water.......

The RC cruise last 2 years ago they kept they did the alternate thing, i.e. keep one open later - close a couple, etc..... bottomline is adults sometimes like to hit the hottubs with a cocktail of choice (oh I bet now I'm going to be labled a drunk because I like to drink alcohol on a cruise) and kick back and talk adult talk without a million children running all over you.....

Anyways, time to set my sights on another vacation, definately not a cruise this time around.... We prefer hotel suites with lots of space and ammenities, the ability to choose and select dining and I don't mind paying for a quality meal with quality service, shopping, I think we just determined on this last cruise, the cramped quarters, limited activities, same food day after day, the routines daily, the drills, the loud announcements that go on and on each morning when you are hungover, etc..... It's more like summer camp then a vacation..... If I want a vacation, next time we will take a real vacation.... and that is my opinion, no one has to jump in and defend Costa, cruises are not for everyone, and I am willing to bet all the money I lost in the Magica Casino that I am not the only one that prefers land vacations to cruises.

We went Costa back to back last christmas on the Atlantica and this year on the Mediteranea, with 2 children 5 & 6. We paid for a suite at the back of the ship with a huge balcony. We loved it. The adults only pool never had any children in and security were telling any parents that took their children in the hot tub to get them out. Give Costa a break. We have sailed other lines and will return to Costa not becasue kids go free as we paid 3rd & 4th person rate for ours but because it is a great vacation. My sons and husband had superb omelettes freshly prepard every morning. The staff were great and the food was fine. I am not adverse to spending $200-$300 on a meal and I expect to get what I paid for, but you have to go with the flow and enjoy you are on vacation after all.

I NEVER ASKED FOR AN UPGARDE. ALL I WANTED WAS A ROOM WITH A/C (AIR CONDITIONING FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DO NOT UNDERSTAND U.S. ABBREVIATIONS) I EVEN OFFERED TO PAY FOR AN UPGRADE TO A BALCONY AND WAS TOLD IT WAS FULL, THEN ON THE LAST DAY WAS TOLD BY ANOTHER STAFF MEMBER THAT THEY HAD PLENTY OF BALCONY ROOMS THAT THE PERSON SPEAKING TO ME AT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE DESK MUST NOT HAVE UNDERSTOOD MY ENGLISH....!!! SO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!

Everyone -- without children---- knows that cruising in holidaytime is

worse .

SO WHAT, I COULD CARE LESS OF THERE WERE KIDS ON BOARD. THAT WAS NEVER A COMPLAINT EXCEPT WHEN THE KIDLINGS ON BOARD TOOK OVER THE ADULT DISCO TIME AND BEGIN TO GET PHYSICAL IN LINE AT EMBARK. AND WHEN OTHERS KIDS START KICKING THEIR LEGS AND THE PARENTS SAY NOTHING - YES I WILL COMPLAIN.

In Europe as well in the USA. And you said you were an expert!

2 or 3 cruises made that of you ????

I NEVER SAID A WAS AN EXPERT. ALL I SAID WAS THAT I ENJOYED PREVIOUS CRUISES FAR MORE. THE PEOPLE WERE MUCH NICER, FRIENDLIER, MORE AMERICAN BASED, EASIER TO COMMINICATE WITH. SEE IN SOUTH FLORIDA I GUESS I GET AN ATTITUDE, IT GETS VERY ANNOYING WHEN YOU LIVE IN THE US AND OTHERS FROM OTHER NEARBY COUNTRIES CROSSOVER AND TAKE OVER. AND THEN THEY EXPECT ME TO CHANGE THE LANGUAGE FOR THEM. LOOK UP SW FLORIDA ONLINE, YOU WILL SEE THEY ARE TAKING GYM AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASSES OUT OF THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO PUT SPANISH IN STARTING IN KINDERGARTEN. THAT IS RIDICULOUS. SO A BUNCH OF SPANISH SPEAKING FAT KIDS RUNNING AROUND. OH BUY. EL SENOIR MC DONALDS'S WILL BE SO HAPPY.

But ----you have learned ---- NO cruising in seasontime ---and that is a good thing.

The other fantastic thing is that you are going to leave

cruising !

WHO IS MORE HATEFUL AND BITTER YOU OR I?

I have defended the Costaline and every other line against your -tales-

COMPLETELY FALSE! I HAVE NEVER COMPLAINED OR WRITTEN A NEGATIVE REPLY OR REVIEW ABOUT ANOTHER LINE. I EXPECTED MORE FROM COSTA AND GOT LESS. I EM ENTITLED TO NOT HAVE HAD A GOOD TIME ON THIS ONE PARTICULAR CRUISE. BUT DOES THAT MEAN THAT I DIDN'T LIKE THE OTHER ONES. HELL NO!

I set sail (since 12 years with Costa ) and not for 6 /7 days.

I am sure that I should be critic but fair !

UM... OK, I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU MEAN HERE, LOST IN TRANSLATION I GUESS.... ;o)

O yeh, never come to Europe, it ended perhaps in worldwar 3

UM.... RE-READ THE HISTORY BOOKS, THERE WAS NO WWIII??!! EXACTLY WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT, RUDE RUDE RUDE EUROS THINKING THEY ARE SO GREAT AND SO MUCH BETTER THAN AMERICANS!!!

We are not used to such whining youngsters.

You are to demanding. -- What you pay you get---

WHEN YOU PAY OVER 6 THOUSAND DOLLARS )IN U.S> WE SAY 6K, THAT MEANS I AM EXPECTING A LOT YES. FOR THAT MONEY I COULD HAVE HAD 5 STAR DINING EVERY NIGHT, NICE 2 BEDROOM SUITES AT THE RITZ, ALL THE BOOZE I COULD WANT, ETC.... WHEN YOU PAY THIS 1200 PP INSIDE CABIN RATE AND THEN TOLD LATER THEY HAD OTHER ROOMS AND SOME PEOPLE GOT ON FOR 500 / pp YES IT MAKES YOU MAD!! I BOOKED DIRECTLY THROUGH COSTA AS WELL. AND THEY RIPPED ME OFF. I WANTED A ROOM WITH A/C. NEVER ASKED FOR ANYTHING FREE UNTIL THEY DID NOT HONOR THEIR PROMISE TO GIVE ME WHAT I PAY FOR. THEN A ASKED FOR A DRINK COMP. WHOOO HOOO. AND DIDN'T EVEN GET THAT!

Or are you the one sitting next to me in Business.Class ( demanding the upgrade )where I am paying fullprice?

I ALWAYS PAY FULL PRICE FOR 1ST CLASS !! UNLESS MY POINTS ARE HIGH ENOUGH FOR THE UPGRADE. THEN AGAIN I AM ENTITLED TO IT IF MY POINTS LET ME HAVE IT!!!! WHATEVER.

I know you don't like children and I am sure you don't like seniors too.

I LOVE SENIORS. NEVER SAID I DON'T LIKE CHILDREN -- BUT PARENTS NEED BETTER CONTROL OF THEIR KIDS, THERE WERE 12 YEAR OLDS SMOKING IN THE DISCO, DRINKING, PLAYING THE CASINO GAMES. LITTLE LITTLE KIDS PLAYING SLOTS AND NO ONE SAID A THING. IT WAS JUST BIZARRE TO ME. I HAVE PICS TO PROVE IT!!!! AND WHEN IN LINE THEY SHOULD NOT BE KICKING AND TOUCHING OTHER PEOPLE. ONE DAY SOME KIDS JUST RAN AROUND OUR DINING TABLE FOR AN HOUR STRAIGHT. IN THE US WE WOULD HAVE HAD BETTER CONTROL OF OUR KIDS AND NOT BEEN SO OUT TO LUNCH ABOUT IT ALL THE TIME. AGAIN, ITS JUST MANNERS. SOME PEOPLE GOT'EM, SOM DON'T!

I hope for you that you find fellowsi n life of your own age/mind.

I HAVE SAID REPEATEDLY WE LOVED OUR DINING PARTNERS, PETE AND ALISON. THEY WERE SO COOL AND SO MUCH FUN. THEY HAD THE SAME COMPLAINTS AS I DID AND I DIDNT BRING THEM UP MOST OF THE TIME THEY DID. BUT THEY WERE GREAT WE HAD A TON OF FUN IN THE BARS AND WATCHING U.S. (YES BARBARIAN) FOOTBALL TOGETHER IN THE ROOM!

I cannot believe that all the young Americans are the same

I have learned from my trips in the USA that most of them were open minded and try to learn from every situation.

SPEAK ENGLISH. AND FOR GOD'S SAKE IF YOU ARE GOING TO TRY AND LOOK EUROPEAN - SPEAK THE FRENCH LANGUAGE CORRECTLY AND SPELL IT CORRECTLY.

Neptunes will bless you and your wife and future offspring leaving his seas and oceans!

I LIVE BY THE WATER, LOVE THE WATER, BUT WHEN YOU LIVE IN SW FLORIDA AND THE SPANISH PEOPLE WANT YOU TO CHANGE YOUR LANGUAGE TO THEIRS INSTEAD OF THE OTHER WAY AROUND, I.E. LOOK UP SW FLORIDA SCHOOLS. THEY ARE REMOVING GYM AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION FROM THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS AT KINDERGARTEN ( 5 YEAR OLD SCHOOL) AND PUTTING SPANISH IN FOR THE DURATION K-12 SO AS A CORE CLASS LIKE ENGLISH, SCIENCE, MATH, SOCIAL STUDIES, ETC. SO A BUNCH OF FAT SPANISH SPEAKING KIDS TO COME. WHERE ELSE IS IST THAT WAY????? SO MAYBE THATS WHY I AM SO - "WHEN IN US SPEAK ENGLISH!!!! OR LEARN TO SPEAK IT, DON'T EXPECT ME TO CHANGE FOR YOU!

I know what I need to know. You are an ignorant bigot.

Please Review the Board Guidelines, Hadleys9538, I am number one neither ignorant or bigoted. I just expect there to be people that speak English on a cruiseship if they are going to sell to English speaking customers, or guests as I like to call it. The rules clearly state:

"Harassment, Flaming and Trolls The harassment of our members is not allowed.

Given what I have read I have a suggestion---as many(if not most) of cruise ship passengers gamble---anyone care to place a wager on what Marc is going to complain about next?---I think another round of pizza complaints is coming next

This is Jean's husband--so don't blame her

also--as this was his honeymoon--maybe the anger stems from something not happenning?

Additionally, it is not I that am intolerant of others opinions. I merely posted mine and it is YOU that is intolarant of my negative views of Costa Cruise Lines. Therefore, according to the definition of the word you called me...... Hmmmm.... Who is what here....

Again more PERSONAL insults.... you guys sure are a bunch of friendly people. I have a God given right not to post a good review if I found the service not up to par. You people have and make personal attacks at people regading their marriages, people they love, care about, etc..... And judging from what I have seen here, a bunch of compliant people that love McDonalds on the water for food .... Well Guess WHAT I live in Florida on the Gulf of Mexico, Sanibel Island is a arm's throw away, I can have 5 Star dining anytime.... I really dont need a cruiseship to have tropical weather and sun. I live in it everyday...... So tell me another reason the tropical weather is a big bonus on a cruise for me from any other day. If I lived in the snowbanks of Indiana THAT WOULD BE A different story. And Jean's Husband.... Funny you chime in when I look at your extensive cruise resume on your wife's signature file, I do not see a single COSTA cruise on there. Interesting you will defend something you have not been on. Seems to be the case on here. After people go, they back off and say it was ok at best.....

You are something else. Have you not read your own review? It isn't a review of the ship or the cruise. It is full of bigoted putdowns (and hardly anyone who was on the trip (except Gomez, a/k/a you) agrees with you. I believe you called all Europeans rude, smoky and smelly. You, just today, complained about Hispanics. If that isn't a bigot, I don't know what one is -- and bigots are ignorant. You are rude, and condescending to anyone who doesn't agree with you. If you had just reviewed the ship, no would have a problem with you. We're all interested in constructive criticism. What everyone has a problem with is your constant childish bellyaching about ridiculous things (pizza - yeah, your a top-level gourmet all right). And please save the pictures. I'm trying to eat dinner right now.;)

You keep commenting that you paid $6K for the cruise; you should have clarified that your on-board account rang up at over $3K. Anyone looking at this is reading that your father-in-law paid $6K for an inside cabin or for a oceanview without balacony (I forgot which one you had) - so obviously it does not make since.

I have the brochure in front of me right now and on page 20 of the Caribbean 2005/2006 the highest priced cabin for that week (rack rate) went for $2,599 per person; and since you were not in a suite the cost of the cruise - not including on your onboard account could not be $6K. If you paid rack rate you would have paid $1449 a piece at the most. However, Florida residents get discounts so I doubt your father-in-law paid rack rate.

I think that is the other thing upsetting people, you keep saying on some threads "I spent" and on another thread you say your father-in-law spent. Personally I could care less who spent it and I still think it was very generous of him to give you this gift and hope you don't keep telling him how bad it was. I hope he doesn't read all of your posts either.

You responded

DO I NEED TO SCAN MY FINAL BILL IN FOR YOU SHOWING THE 3K + THAT I SPENT ON THE SHIP AND PAID MYSELF!!!!!!!!!!! I DID IT TO SURVIVE,

First of all turn off the cap lock; its considered rude and your yelling by doing that which will only upset the readers. Why would you give $3K to a cruise line you didn't like so much? I have never had a $3K bill - not even when we did Hawaii for 11 nights with tons of excursions. No I don't need to see a copy of your bill; it just seems like an awful lot of money to give to a cruise line you were soooooooooo unhappy with. You can't blame Costa for that cost, you chose to spend the money no one forced you.

Also I have read every single one of your posts; I went in the other day and pulled them all before I responded and looked at your website and you are making a lot of nasty comments about race & ethnicity. This is America - people come to this country for freedom; to live a better life and its rude of you to bash them on here. You comment about schools teaching spanish to kindergarten students - good for them. You can go to Mexico where people work for $20 a day (or less) and they know 4 or 5 languages - they have to for their jobs; but here less than 50% of people born & raised in America can speak a second language fluently. Diversity is about differences and you should celebrate and learn from one anothers differences.

For someone who is a lawyer and had years of education your not coming across that way in your e-mails. Maybe in person your completely different; or at least I hope so.

One more thing then I will get off my soap box - you only have 36 or so posts on these boards and 98% of them have had nasty comments or have been argumentative and they have all been on the Costa board. There are a ton of great people on these boards with really good insight to share - I wouldn't be so quick to attack them. Check out the other sites and listen to what people have to say without attacking them - you may get some great tips for a better cruise next time.

Marc you are a bigot.

You don t like the pool because of the grems, but you go in the hot tub(this after the kids spent all day in there peeing) .

You prefer hotel suites, but you cruised in a inside cabin.

It cost you, it cost you and it cost you, but your father in law paid. Guess he doesn t think much of you either since he booked you into a inside cabin.

Yes, even us Italians no the U.S. ABBREVIATION for AC.

Even if they had 100s of open balcony cabins why should they give you one. You only paid for an inside.

And I'm sure the tone of your voice didn t help.

SPANISH SPEAKING FAT KIDS , you are a BIGOT and a JERK.

EUROS THINKING THEY ARE SO GREAT AND SO MUCH BETTER THAN AMERICANS. BIGOT, BIGOT.

When YOU PAY 6k, let me know.

You always pay full price for first class, inside cabin is NOT first class.

Since you always travel first class why did you not book a balcony cabin. You said yourself there were plenty of open balcony cabins.

I wonder if your dining partners loved you as much.

You asked for a drink comp???? You were on a cruise ship not in a bar that does buy backs.

Mark , Please Review the Board Guidelines, I don t think your bigoted remarks are really allowed here.

Guess what mark, you are a ignorant bigot.

Maybe your time would be better spent working on that land vacation...try Trip Advisor. You have made some awful statements on this thread.
