Booking category guarantee with 4 per room

Recommended Posts

We have always booked an assigned cabin as there are four in our immediate family who share a room. We are talking about our booking for next year and hearing all about fantastic upgrades on this site. (We were upgraded the last time but it was because our travel agent arranged it). If we booked a category guarantee, is there a chance we would get an upgrade to a room without room for 4 to sleep which would not be OK. Or is it just less chance of an upgrade as there aren't as many rooms that accomodate 4. Can someone advise.

We need a winter break!

Bon Voyage on the PRIDE in...

I am doing the same thing, a guarantee for a room for four. My understanding is that you will only get upgraded to a room that can accomidate your number of guests.

I am also wondering about how the upgrade fairy looks at a quad. On one hand, you might have less chances because there are less quad rooms available. On the other hand, if your category is full, they might need the quad rooms in that cat to give to others, and so would bump you up to the next cat with a quad room available.

Anyone have any clue?

From what I have gleaned from this board, and the resident experts you should book a gty. in the lowest possible category that you will feel comfortable with for your cruise. If an upgrade does happen, it will always be to a higher catagory not a lower one. Keep this in mind when you shop for the catagory and keep your fingers crossed for a visit from the Upgrade Fairy.

We have booked quad guarantees several times and were upgraded every time (sometimes only a deck or two, but still an upgrade). No matter what, you WILL have enough beds for everyone.

Wow, that's strange. Every time I ask about that they say that guarantees are only available for double occupancy. I got this from Costco, BPC etc.

It all depends on what sailing you have. I currently have a quad guarantee on the Pride later this month, but when I looked at sailings later this year, there are no quad guarantees.

I was able to book a quad guarantee on Carnival's website. However, when I go to cruise411.com to check on the price of my cruise, it says there are no guarantee quads available on that sailing.

It could be that all the quad guarantees are gone. I know that a couple of the on-line websites would tell me that there were no cabins that would fit 4 people, but others would. Depends on the inventory left at the time you try to book I would guess.

 • 3 months later...
Yes, you could potentially end up with a cabin that does not have enough standard beds and end up with roll-aways being brought it. It's happened to a friend of mine. They went with a triple GTY and ended up needing a roll-away. Some Carnival ships allow doubles to convert to triples, triples to quads etc. by allowing this. Hopefully you wouldn't end up in a double they were trying to convert to a quad.

I will give you our personal experience. It sounds very similar to your situation. We booked a 6a gty on the Sensation (Me, DH & our 2 kids ages 8 & 5). I assumed we would get one of those rooms with the 2 "dots" on the brochure - meaning 2 uppers. I showed the kids the picture of the bunk in the brochure & told them they would EACH get one & they were VERY excited! BUT...we were upgraded to a 6d, same type of cabin but 3 decks higher. It was a triple cabin with only 1 bunk & a "rollaway" if you want to call it that. I'm sure there are others out there who have had this, I'll try to explain the "rollaway" the best I can. 1st of all, it's not on wheels & it doesn't roll! lol It's only about 6" off the ground, it has a metal frame & plastic straps across it much like a lounge chair that you would use on the beach - only without legs- then it has a mattress on top of that. It was fine for the kids (after they resolved who got the bunk which night) but it was definitely shorter than a regular bed. CANADIANQUARTET...I don't know how old your kids are but hopefully one of them is little if you get this kind of cabin & they bring you a "rollaway".
Good Luck with an upgrade, we were surprised (didn't find out until we got to the pier) & quite happy with it.
