San Juan at Night?

Could someone please tell me if it is safe to walk around San Juan at night? I will be in San Juan on Monday March 6, 2006 from 5 PM - 12 AM.

Not the best idea....that is the most crime ridden part of the island, as in most areas where airports, and cities converge.

 

Decide where you want to go and either taxi directy there or go with a group

We were there 3 days/2 nights precruise end of November..... stayed at El Convento in osj.... loved it.

 

I disagree with above posters. We walked all over the place- at night. There were 4 of us. Most areas we visably saw police officers and lots of other tourists. Best advice is to avoid the really dark deserted streets - just like you would anywhere else. The city knows this is a tourist area and take more precautions here than in other parts of the city. We walked from one nightclub to another (quite a ways I might add) and never felt uncomfortable. Be aware of whats going on around you and stay away from the "edges" of town. Have a great trip.
