510picker Posted November 29, 2018 #1 Share Posted November 29, 2018 We recently had a great cruise on Holland America's Koningsdam. It went down to the ABC islands and I thought I would share our experience renting a golf cart in Bonaire from Bonaire Cruisers http://www.bonairecruisers.com/ A little bit about me. I am a full-time wheelchair user after sustaining a spinal cord injury in 1995. I am able to stand some, but really can't walk. I emailed Bonaire Cruisers and reserved the cart ahead of time. No deposit was required at that time. Golf cart rental is $95 for the day with a refundable deposit of $100. No payment was required until we got to Bonaire. Once we got off the ship, we found the rental people in the last tent, which can be seen in the middle of the photo below on the far left. Our name was on a list and we were directed to the actual rental place, which was just a couple blocks from the tent. The actual rental place was very easy to find. The staff was very helpful and went out of their way to make sure I could get in the golf cart and my wheelchair would strap onto the back. The straps on the cart that would normally hold golf bags worked perfect. We also brought a small bungee cord and used it for extra security, but I don't think it was needed. Below is a photo of my wife, myself and my chair strapped to the back of the golf cart. The rental place gave us a map of the island that showed places to snorkel (for my wife) and things to see. We did the north loop of the island and covered about 25 miles. This was a fun way to experience the island. As most of you know, being disabled requires extra thought and planning to make a vacation successful. If you are cruising to Bonaire and able to get into a golf cart, I highly recommend renting a golf cart from Bonaire Cruisers.
Semi Retired Posted December 7, 2018 #2 Share Posted December 7, 2018 Thank you for sharing this. We will be renting one in March '19 and my DH has an electric portable wheelchair. We are thrilled to know it will be able to stow in back of cart.
b7440 Posted December 9, 2018 #3 Share Posted December 9, 2018 I also recently rented a golf cart, with my wife. I use a TravelScoot scooter. I was able to fold the scooter and place it where the golfs clubs are usually stowed. We did the south tour, but got mixed up, and did it in reverse order. We also did part of the North tour. I would recommend this tour to anyone. Staff was very nice, and helpful. Good way to see the island.
