IsanTom Posted December 15, 2018 #1 Share Posted December 15, 2018 My friend and her son are arriving on Costa Deliozosa this month. What do you recommend, if they do not buy an expensive excursion or are there any inexpensive excursions at the port? Thanks for the info.
Loonbeam Posted December 15, 2018 #2 Share Posted December 15, 2018 By going 3rd party you can get very inexpensive excursions. Our 4 hour tour with Marysol was $50 per person I think. The only downside is because the cruise line controls the port, you have to hike to meet your guides.
chong67 Posted December 20, 2018 #3 Share Posted December 20, 2018 I have not been here yet. 1.It looks like a private island? Is it? 2. Walk out the gates and find a taxi to the nearest town? Possible?

Loonbeam Posted December 21, 2018 #5 Share Posted December 21, 2018 Private port area, not private island. You could taxi into Porta Plata, walk around, there is a donation based Amber Museum (with a jewelry store at the end but their prices and service were not bad for a tourist trap.) The fort was ok and the surrounding area nice. There is also a chocolate factory that does free tours (shop after). A tour might be more cost effective than a bunch of cab rides though as it does other things and included admission to some.
HealthyTouch101 Posted December 24, 2018 #6 Share Posted December 24, 2018 It is free to use the substantial pool facilities and we enjoyed that experience very much.
chong67 Posted January 25, 2019 #7 Share Posted January 25, 2019 Why does it cost so much to take a taxi from Amber Cove to Puerto Plata ? $35? Walk to center of town is 7.5 miles, but I can walk 3.5 miles to the outskirt of town. Is it OK to walk on the highway? Never been there yet. Thanks. It's not really safe walkable at least from what I observed (possibly doable), its hot, and the cruise port doesn't allow private guides in so the taxi's have limited competition. I also have no idea what you would be walking through (I will leave that to locals). You can book a tour with a reputable company for around $50pp as well, which other than the walk to the pickup is a good value.
chong67 Posted February 8, 2019 #9 Share Posted February 8, 2019 I love to exercise and walk but from the Cove to the downtown Fort is about 7.5 miles one way. Thats alot of walking. You might want to read this also below. All in all, its better to stay in port. https://todayschallenges.com/things-not-to-do-in-puerto-plata-dominican-republic/
