abbyoro Posted December 19, 2018 #1 Share Posted December 19, 2018 Just checking to see if anyone has used one of the portable wifi hot spots such as skyroam solis, to take on their South America Cruise? Any feedback would be welcome. Thanks
ezrider74 Posted December 28, 2018 #2 Share Posted December 28, 2018 We just used one while cruising through the caribbean a couple weeks ago. The skyroam works great while you're in port, although may take a few minutes to register on the network. Once we left port it would keep connection for maybe half an hour max. I'd read that the cell signals can sometimes reach 20 or so miles off shore.

anthonyy7 Posted January 30, 2019 #5 Share Posted January 30, 2019 We board our ship in Buenos Aires on Thursday but so far the solis works very well in Rio, Iguazu (all over both parks), and Buenos Aires. I’ll let you know in regards to the rest of ports as I know them. FYI, haven’t needed it much since free WiFi is plentiful and FAST at a lot of places. If you don’t have WhatsApp, download it. You can text and talk on phone as you do at home as long as you have WiFi. Just have cellular data turned off.
anthonyy7 Posted February 15, 2019 #6 Share Posted February 15, 2019 Skyroam works well in Montevideo, Punta Arenas (only when ashore because ship anchors too far out), and Purto Montt (works fine even when anchored). Nothing in Stanley and slow in Puerto Madryn and Ushuaia.
